After last weeks defeat at the hands of Mickleover, Bygraves and his band of merry men were wanting to get the seasons winning band wagon on the road.
Nick went out for the toss and yet again failed to deliver and Duffield were put into bat.
The umpires were out and with Bygraves and Hamilton following behind expectations were again high for what we were hoping to be successful innings. After eight overs the runs werent piling up and worried faces were starting to appear on the boundary. Then, Sam was dismissed, sent on his way by the bowling of Jake Lowe. In came Poyner and with hopes high he again failed to deliver after being caught at deep-point after hitting a quick fire 9. (nuff said). Promising young batsmen James Saunders stayed around for a while blocking and allowing Bygraves to hit the much needed runs. He soon was sent packing allowing young superstar Marcus Yjorth to try and take centre stage and proved, although at only 12, that he could become something special in the future.
Unlucky for him he was bowled late on after a fine display of batting. Bygraves followed soon on after a good innings of about 32. Duffield finished on 74, a respectable total, now needing the bowlers to take the wickets and send Duffield on the way to the first win of the season.
Opening up the attack was Poyner and Stewart and looking for wickets it wasnt long before Poyner sent Jake Lowe straight back to the pavilion with a late out swinger hitting his off peg. In came Richard Lidsay to spoil Duffields day. He sent the bowling of Jamie Stewart, James Saunders and Skipper Bygraves over the boundary it wasnt long before he with the support of his fellow Quarndians was the target finishing of with a huge six of the bowling of George Kelly. Oh Well!
And with two games this week against Rolls Royce (cup) and Darley Abbey Duffield will be hoping for better fortunes. Yet without the bowling of paceman Mike Poyner after he strained his side in the 2nd teams victory over Elvaston at the weekend it will give other bowlers the chance to show their worth and take centre stage.
