Duffield 97-9 Marehay 100-2 After a resounding victory the previous day against Selston (Selston vs Duffield), Duffield were in high spirits. Availability problems meant Jones and Carrazedo weren't available so in came Dave Olsen and Ian Hadfield, who kept wicket. Unsuprisingly the spirit in the camp was good, and also unsuprisingly Ed Sims lost the toss yet again, and Marehay offered Duffield the chance to score some runs first. This was of a great relief to Richard Jordan, whose late night exploits with Paul Lynn from Allestree were too much for him to bare. Phil Jordan who looked in good form from the match at Selston where he scored 50, was soon back in the shed, as Lee Colledge picked up his first wicked with only his 3rd ball. Phil playing onto his own stumps. Kris Elliot was at the crease much sooner then he would have expected, and looked to play the shots we all know he is capable of. Then he slapped one from Colledge straight into the hands of the fielder at cover point. Duffield in trouble at 15-2 from 16 overs. Richard Fry, batting at 4, was next to go, given out LBW to one that he inside edged......i have a feeling we will be hearing about this for most of the season.......however he had to go, and he became Colledge's third victim. Mark Antill batting at 5, managed to bat 20 overs for his 13, whilst Ed Sims was having some valuable time in the middle, even if the runs weren't flowing. From 36 overs Duffield were 40-3. Antill was then dismissed, and Hadfield went in and tried to up the run rate. But disciplined bowling and good fielding from Marehay put paid to this and Hadfield was caught trying to hit to the boundary. Sims was next to go, trying an expansive slog over the pavillion, only to be greeted by the death rattle. Short was in at 7, and despite hitting a run a ball 10, was dismissed from Lee Colledge's first ball back. Olsen batted on bravely despite an injured thigh, but was undone by the pee-roller, as was Nicholls. So it was left to Robin Stevenson and Richard Jordan to steer Duffield home, and it wasn't until the 49th over that Robin Stevenson hit Duffield first boundary. The score ended on 97-9 from 50 overs. After last weeks spread, much was expected from the Duffield Tea Team, and they didnt dissapoint. The wraps this week, were filled with Salmon, Tuna and Prawns. The little chicken nuggets went down well, as did the melons, and Eccles cake. Top draw!!! So back to the cricket, Ed Sims pre innings briefing had Duffield chomping at the bit. Hugh Nicholls after taking 5 wickets the previous day, soon made his mark, trapping the Marehay opener LBW, and when the other opener also fell similarly, but this time to the flighty breaks of Ed Sims, Marehay were struggling at 5-2 from 8 overs. Despite a superb spell of bowling from Nicholls, and variation from Sims, Jordan and Kris Elliot, Marehay reached their required target in the 38th over. It was a good response from Duffield, having batted so poorly, and the team spirit was there throughout. The presence of Alan Rowley from Sting in the Tail, couldnt even inspire Duffield to get a wicket or two for the photographer. In fact it appeared to make Nicholls nervous as his spilt a couple at long on from the bowling of Richard Jordan. Lee Colledge scored 51 not out, to cap off a fine individual performance from him. The tottie meter I hear you cry??????? Well, having calmed down from the Saturday night in the Red Lion in Selston, the tottie meter had its work cut out on Sunday. Late night discussions with Dave Olsen's girlfriend and Pete Ellis' daughter ensured that tottie was going to be present at Eyes Meadow. Marehay also did their bit, providing that little bit of extra scenery to what is already a fine setting. The after match drink at the White Hart however sent the tottie meter into overdrive, with Zane Carrazedo and his sister providing much for the tottie meter to rate. Talk of the Kings Head Disco was soon forgotten as the amber nectar flowed. And it was to the Lord Scarsdale followed by a trip to the HCG (hadfield cricket ground) before retiring to bed. Bring on Shipley next week. As mentioned Alan Rowley from Sting in the Tail was present yesterday and you can see his report here Sundays Results Pics from the match courtesy of Alan Rowley
