Yet again the new ground was subject to press
coverage last week as the Derbyshire Times did a story about the work starting.
However as has been the case with most of the reports they have done some of the
information that it contained was incorrect. Following on from insisting that we
were moving to on whole to the new ground rather than running with two grounds
the latest article contained some incorrect information about some of the
funding for the new ground.
The article stated that North East Derbyshire
District Council (NEDDC) had put thousands of pounds into the scheme when this
wasn't the case. The actual situation was that NEDDC have only provided the
actual field that is being used for the project and it was actually Derbyshire
County Council (DCC) that had provided £15,000 towards the project.
Below is a statement from club sec. Steve Eyre to
clear up the situation :-
'In the 25 September edition of the Derbyshire
Times there was an article about the start of work on the new cricket ground at
Jackson's Field, Sharley Park, Clay Cross. The article contained a factual and
serious error. Contrary to the article the North East Derbyshire District
Council (NEDDC) have put no money whatsoever into this project and the club has
received no preferential help from the NEDDC. However, they have allowed the
project to be built on their land and the club appreciates this gesture. The
Derbyshire County Council (DCC) through their amenity funds have provided
£15,000 towards the total cost of the project. The club owes a debt of
gratitude to the DCC for their contribution and without it, it is doubtful the
project would have got off the ground.'
