2nd Ground Update - A Level Playing Field

By Steve Eyre - September 15 2003
Details and photos from stage 2 of the development of the 2nd ground at Sharley Park. Work is now well under way as the levelling of the area takes place.

Its amazing what you can do with half a million pounds of earth moving machinery. Within ten days you can flatten a barren waste land, cover it with top soil and you have the makings of a top notch cricket ground.

Before yesterday's Over 30s V Under 30s it was suggested we play on the new ground. It looked good enough to play on. That is, if you play your cricket on bare soil with no discernable square. A couple of Grade A grounds I can think of fit that description.

Any way by Tuesday 16 September the big guns will have finished their job and the seeders will move in. By the end of the year where there was soil there will be green grass. Come and have a look. I think you will be impressed. The ground is in a natural bowl surrounded by mature trees. Even at this stage in the construction it seems a magical place to play cricket.

All we need now is a quarter of a million pounds of cricket pavilion with all the mod cons and we will be well on our way to our goal of a place in the Premier League.
