It was one of the hottest weekends ever in
Britain and after the disappointment of losing last weekends game against fellow
promotion hopefuls Chesterfield the 1sts travelled to Wirksworth looking to
repeat their win of the previous encounter at Sharley Park. The team was under
the captaincy of James Carley for the first time as they took to the field
missing several players through various reasons. Despite the heat and late
arrival of 4 players they fielded first, which included the first over with 7
men plus Daz Parkin as a sub, and dismissed Wirksworth for a small total in a
repeat of the first meeting of the season. The makeshift openers then made a
good start before a couple of wickets gave Wirksworth a point but it only
delayed the winning runs which came in the 22nd over. This win coupled with
Chesterfields defeat at home to Matlock meant that the 1sts returned to 2nd
place in 3 North and currently hold the final promotion spot due to have more
points than Sawley who currently hold 2nd place in 3 South.
As well as this the 2nds entertained Middleton
with the weather proving the complete opposite of the reverse weekend earlier in
the season when the game at Middleton was cancelled. To complete the weekend the
3rds travelled to league leaders Nomads. The 2nds battled through the heat as
they bowled first and Middleton racked up over 200 and they were in with a shout
but as the 1st team returned to cheer them on, or drink at the Welfare, a few
quick wickets took the middle of the innings out and it was left for Dave
Spolding with Matt Garner then Steve Gardiner to see out the overs to gain a
draw which probably isn't enough in their battle against relegation. The 3rds
faced the league leaders and struggled to 100-8 which the home team reached for
the loss of a couple of wickets.
