Clay Cross CC
Bad Weekend!! 2nd August Match Details
By Jon Branson - August 5 2003
Details about the 1sts crunch game against Chesterfield and the 2nds trip to league leaders Staveley Welfare. Could the 1sts carry on from the previous weekend and could the 2nds cause an upset? >

Last weekend saw the 1sts take on Chesterfield at Sharley Park in Division 3N's game of the day. Going into the game Clay Cross sat in 2nd place following their 49 point haul the previous weekend which had seen them overtake and push the visitors into 3rd place. It was a tight game throughout, where the bowlers just edged things, but it was the visitors who just edged it getting home with 3 wickets to spare. It was a case of old boys doing the business as Jim Carley scored 49 and took 5 wickets whilst ex Clay Crosser Rob Kench took a couple of wickets and scored 28* at the death to see his new side home. A brief report of the game from a Chesterfield perspective can be found on their website here.

The 2nds also had a game against another Chesterfield based side in top of the table Staveley Welfare. Good scores from J Clarke and G Dent saw them set a decent total but the league leaders eased home by 6 wickets to remain top and leave Clay Cross stuck at the bottom with relegation looming.
