OK.......a more recent rock band can be thanked for this set of sub titles. Mr. Writer is thanked for his report.
Everyday I Think Of Money
It was a huge gamble. People arrived at noon to see if it would pay off. A ladder was shipped in. Geordie took on the role of Foreman and the recently purchased sheets were attached to the fence. Stand back and have a look ......... Success !!
John Greenhalgh towed the other screens to the other end and thus the Great Wall of Danesmoor was constructed.
It's time to get ready for a cricket match.
Have A Nice Day
Six changes from the day before and the Cross batted first.
C Gaskin picked up 2 wickets in 2 balls in the 13th over to leave the home side 36-2. Paul Lemon was caught at deep square leg with the score on 44 and Collett (19) and Greenhalgh (30) set about a recovery.
Hurry Up And Wait
After 40 overs Clay Cross were 116-5. In the final 6 overs Ian Miller and Darrell Dring added 65 runs to push the score to a respectable 181-6, Miller being dismissed on the final delivery.
C Gaskin (2 for 33) and D Mierkalns (2 for 30) were the main wicket takers.
A marvellous spread was available at the interval...............many people took the opportunity to enjoy the food in the wonderful sunshine. It was that good a day.
Half The Lies You Tell Ain't True
The skipper suggested that his medium shirt was "hugging a little." Yeh, right !! Don't forget there's some video footage of the game .... the camera never lies.
Nice To Be Out
G Birley was dismissed in the 2nd over as Branson generated some pace from the Danesmoor end. J Polley and D Mierkalns dug in and reached 13 before Polley fell on his sword following a mix up over a quick single in the 9th over. Who was more pleased?
Maybe
At this point P Brunton came in to capitalise on some wayward bowling. He quickly rattled up 39 before being adjudged LBW to the first ball of Branson's comeback spell. JB took 2 for 21 from his 8 overs.
A Slater joined Mierkalns and the pair put together a partnership of 104 to take the visitors to the brink. James Collett, making his first appearance for the 1st X1 this year, took two late wickets as Sawley quickly wrapped up the win.
Sawley fully deserved the victory and will look forward to their quarter final tie. The Clay Cross lads will be Lying In The Sun
Unsolved Mysteries
1 Was it a real Bush Ranger?
2. How much money did they cost?
3. Was he LBW?
Champagne Moment
One of the mighty sixes ........... BFT !!
