Clay Cross v Glapwell
Wednesday 28 May 2003
What A Difference !!
The weather was fine and warm.
Statto Nottingham met an old school acquaintance and preceded to reminisce as both had been enlisted to do the scoring. Paul Lemon took up umpiring duties and awaited the start of the Clay Cross innings.
A Quick Reminder
At Under 11 level:
teams are made up of 8 players
each innings lasts for 16 overs
each pair of batsmen have 4 overs
each team starts with 200 runs
everyone to bowl at least one over, with a maximum of 3 overs
8 runs are deducted for each wicket lost.
The Action:
Clay Cross send in the Jordan's.
Jordan Lemon and Jordan Crowder (is he related to Arnie / Dale?) were the first pair and added 14 runs after 3 overs. The fireworks then began with Jordan Crowder hitting 4 fours in taking 18 from the final over at the crease as the score advanced to 232.
Ben Radcliffe and Luke Riggott continued the good work and moved the score to 257 without losing a wicket. Debutant Harrison Clarke and Dominic Riggott formed the third batting pair, Harrison hitting two excellent boundaries as they reached 276. An unfortunate mix-up in the 12th over led to Clay Cross losing their first wicket when Harrison was run out.
Despite the final pair (Kieron Marsh and Adam Warwick) losing two wickets in their first two overs they recovered well and moved the score to 296 thanks largely to three well timed boundaries from Adam Warwick.
A score of 296 was reduced to 272 as a result of losing 3 wickets. It was an excellent performance with everyone contributing to the team effort.
Billy Davies was the pick of the Glapwell bowlers and received good support from A Drayner and D Pykett.
Almost a Hat-Trick Hero ........ Twice !!
After taking only one run from the first over bowled by Jordan Lemon, Glapwell suffered a double blow in the second over when Jordan Crowder bowled both openers, Davies and Drayner with successive balls. The hat-trick narrowly eluded him and the first Glapwell pair took the score to 10 at the end of their 4 overs.
The second pair of M Smith and A Pykett found runs difficult against the Clay Cross bowlers and Adam Warwick picked up the wicket of Smith. The score had advanced to 18 when the third pair of D Pykett and S Goodall came to the crease. Warwick picked up another wicket, an excellent catch by Crowder at cover point. The final pair of R Chapman and J Bexton lost a further wicket in the 13th over when Luke Riggott bowled Bexton.
Jordan Crowder the repeated his earlier performance. He bowled Chapman and Bexton off successive deliveries and narrowly failed to complete the hat-trick.
The Glapwell innings finished on 48 but was reduced, as a result of the 7 wickets lost, by 56 runs to a final total of 192.
This was a fantastic result for the Clay Cross team. It was the first hard ball victory they have gained and was achieved on the back of good performances from everyone. The enthusiastic fielding was once again a feature of the performance and complemented the efforts of Kieron Marsh as wicket-keeper.
