Bedlington outclassed by league leaders

BEDLINGTON Terriers' unbeaten league run came to a crashing halt at Welfare Park on Saturday when they fell to comprehensive 3-0 defeat at the hands of runaway leaders Durham City.
The Terriers were hit by a blow in that key striker Anthony Shandran was unavailable for this game as was Alex Lawson - their two-goal hero from their win at Chester-le-Street - meaning that their attack was severely blunted before even a ball was kicked.
An already tough game got even harder in just the seventh minute when the visitors were awarded a penalty for an off the ball incident which no one but the referee deemed to be worthy of further action.
Johnston made no mistake with the spot-kick, sending Bedlington keeper Dryden the wrong way.
A game played out in extremely blustery conditions, did not excite those watching, and the first half played out without many notable chances for either side, although Durham rarely seemed troubled by the Bedlington forward line.
In fact, Durham did not add to their score until five minutes after the restart, but it was worth waiting for as Johnston scored a superb individual goal to double his tally for the game.
Richardson added a third goal with 15 minutes of the game remaining to confirm the victory, but in truth this was never in doubt, as the home side had very little to offer.
