Hello Everybody

I've started to try and arrange some Sunday friendlies

I've steered clear of cup dates and the weeks after and also looked at the World Cup fixtures to avoid a game clashing with England!

Dates I am trying to fill are:

23rd MAy, 20th June, 18th July, 25th July, 8th August, 15th August and 22nd August

That is hopefully 7 friendlies

Also I'd like to maybe organise a inter club day, maybe on the 29th August which should be bank holiday Sunday, or use this date for the tournament young Mr Fletcher wanted to organise

I'm also still thinking about trying to run a 6 a side tournament which could take the bank holiday date but that is still in it's early stages and may be something for 2011

Also, I am toying with the idea of a pre-season friendly or 2 to get some practice before the season starts, theoretically we could play on Sat 17th or Sun 18th or even both, I need to canvas opinion so as to find the right opposition, i.e. will the majority of the 1st team want a pre season game?

Hopefully friendlies will be supported by the majority of the playing membership this season as they are a way of making money for the club

Allthough we should have enough players to fill all of the friendlies, August may be a tricky month as regards other 6 a side tournaments.

We have already been invited to one in Skeggy and a few of the lads have expressed interest in returning to the Marehay and Matlock tournaments if they were to go ahead.
If we do organise friendlies on 6 a side tournament days a large proportion of the lads may be missing.

This is not ment to sound like we wont be supporting our club but I know that some of the tournaments we get invited to be become quite popular.

Thankyou Matt, just didn't want anybody kicking off saying that were not bothered about making money for the club etc!

planty ben mills has recently contacted me about the spotted cow so i suggest you contact him as the cow will always play away friendlies.

Take your point about other tournaments Dave and if we enter one we enter one, nothing concrete as yet though and as other clubs are in the process of sorting friendlies I have to do it now!

I've left the Aug bank holiday open which is a likely date for other 6 a side stuff is it not?

Also I'd hope we can muster 20 odd people on a sunday so even if 6-8 want to go play 6 a side somewhere I'd hope we can still get a friendly team out

Well we need to make a decision pretty sharpish on what we want to do about this Skeggy thing. It looks like we have now arranged a friendly on this date so I dont want to say yes to the offer from skeggy only to pi$$ them about again a couple of weeks before.

I know how this club works, at the AGM everybody says we could easy get 20 names out for a Sunday game but then as Bravo found out last year he was scratching about on a Thursday night at practice to get a side.

id knock skeggy game on head dave, as u well know loads will put their name down 4 it and only a few will actually go. plus, if there is a friendly against fat spotty cow, and weather is good, we cud do with the money from teas and the bar.

Its up to you fellas but I would have thought that the 6 for Skeggy are unlikely to be playing in a Sunday friendly anyway.

what's your six dave & if there unlikely to play in freindlies have a word with them & you still might be able to do both?

some other ideas would be a single wicket, over 30s vs under 30s, club 6 a side tournament (need 24 players, draw teams out of a hat, play a round robin and a final - this is 7 games in the day and 6 a side games last only 10 overs)

we've been contacted by Mexbororugh for another friendly, going to offer them 25th July or 15th August

I seem to remember them being a decent side so it would help if this game happens that it is supported by a few first teamers

remember we also have a friendly on 22nd August vs Spotted Cow so could people start thinking about being available for that one - just noticed that the Third team has no game on 21st August so I propose we use the friendly on 22nd as a Third Team game and give priority to those who don't play for the 2nds or 1sts on the Saturday
