Side to face Aussies

amazingly we over subscribed for this match. amazing as it is a work day and even more so when we struggle to get a side out on a sunday. different shift patterns in the clay cross area? should we arrange all sunday friendlies for fridays next year? anyway i digress. after a meeting of the minds tonight (and a big hat full of names) we have come up with the following side which represents all 3 teams at the club.

Please confirm you are available asap as i am sure there are others waiting to fill your shoes. 1pm meet (if not before as there will be lots of jobs to do) for a 2pm start. Brad and Harry have my permission to miss school that day.

kipper

it was very hard to come up with a team that had a good cross section of the club. i wouldnt give up hope yet though as on several occasions on sundays people have had to drop out due to other commitments.

besides need to keep the caged tiger ready to roar on the saturday. ;-)

wouldnt it be a gud idea to let as many juniors(ie kipper) play if they want to, in front of our more aged players??

I'm ok to play Greendog!

The ommisson of Hartley is an interesting move, thought he would be one of 1st names on the sheet! :oP

I believe that playing in previous Sunday friendlies has been taken into account for selection for this one. Has its merits slightly but also unfair on those that struggle to play twice in a weekend like Bil and others. For some taking a day off to play a friendly in the week is probably easier than playing a double weekend.

Really gutted im not playing on friday. I was looking forward to it so much and thought i would have been selected as my name was one of the first on the list. I have had the day booked off work since i commited to playing in the game. If the selection process has been based on previous friendlies played, then im not sure it applies to all the selected!
I also helped a fair bit up at the club in preperation for the season which i believe should contribute to the selection process as others have also highlighted.
I understand that there has to be disapointments when choosing the side, however i think this could be avoided if the team was selected well in advance, not last minute and without said excuses.

do you know what bill have my place.

i am sick and tired of people leaving work to others and then bitching when things dont go their way. ive had enough.

the sign up sheet clearly slated that the side would be selected from ALL names not just the first 11 on the sheet. it also clearly stated that preference would be given to players who played in friendlies. by my reckoning the only two people on the list not having played a friendly are myself and matt. and the reason i havent played is because i have spent my time running around making teas and running the bar etc. matt has been doing similar. the beer doesnt majically appear on tap.

its a shame the same enthusiasm for this match has been as evident for the sunday friendlies, quiz nights and supporting the junior sides. some members cant even get off their arse and walk from the bar to support the third team.

as usual its always the same faces showing up unless its suits individuals.

i realise that the above sounds like the toys coming out of the pram and to an extent ists true. but to be honest i just dont care any more the amount of grief i get at home is now becoming outweighed by the grief at the club so i shall just step aside.

Mate, no need for all that, was not a cheap swipe at you and i know you do alot for the club, as do a lot of others. Put that dummy back in and i will be up there friday serving you all with light refreshments behind the bar(Not being sarcastic). Just wanted to raise the point on behalf of others not getting a game. Didnt raise this to try and buy my way into the side on friday, so the team will remain as first chosen. No hard feelings just heat of the moment and thought the point needed raising.

See you friday!

Bil.

but bill i explained this to you on facebook so i dont know why air it again on here?

i know it may sound ott but what you dont realise is that no matter what you do there is someone with a gripe and at the end of the day you get to the point of why bother.

sorry to go on at you but this is the last in line of things and im afraid it was a final heavy straw on my back.

Just to put one fact across.....the bit about the team being selected based on playing in other friendlies etc wasnt added until we realised there would be about 17 names on the list and not when the first few popped themselves down.

I will also state again that for some getting a day off to play midweek is probably a lot easier than it will be to turn out on a Sunday hence the interest and its not any normal friendly is it. With no offence meant to the other teams its not the same as playing a normal friendly against the likes of Matlock, Cutthorpe etc.

Different people support the clubs in different ways and you will always get those who do more than others.....and so what those sort of people are still important as without them we wouldnt be able to field 33 players every Saturday. We need to realise that some people dont have lots of time to give up to do other stuff aside from playing...doesnt mean they dont care.

I suspect you can ask any club in the DCCL and they will all say there are a few individuals that do loads, some that pitch in if required and then some that just play....they are all needed.
