Friendly vs Skegness Cricket Club
Posted by: GREABO (IP Logged)

Back in the day, when 'The Mighty Broom' were in their pomp (if you could ever call it that), we used to have an annual away friendly beside the seaside against Skegness CC. Now i'm sure a few of the ex broom lads who played in these games would agree that they were good days out and I can even remember one year a certain Mr Lemon turning out for us.

What I was going to do was send somebody at Skeggy CC an email with a view to sorting a game out against us for the 2010 season. Now i'm not sure if they still host regular friendlies and if they did I bet they would be popular.

Would much there be much interest in this? What do people reckon?

Depending on date, ie not during my annual trip to France, i would be up for this.

If you cant get in at Skeggy then Cutthorpe played at somewhere the other week and said it was a top day and top place to play. Can get details from them if need be.

Whenever we played with the broom we all went down in a bus and came back the same day! Depending on numbers and whats going on I suppose you could get in some grotty B & B somewhere to stay over after the game!

stayed in a B&B last December when I went to watch Frankie Boyle, £20 a night and decent enough

Skeggy's not the best night out though, very small place and full of knobs!

Bravo. I know what you mean. Could you & I set up a more refined away friendly against a team in the Cayman Islands?

Just a quick update on this.

I have been in contact with Skegness's Fixture Secretary with a view to sorting something out and they struggle to host regular sunday friendlies as they play in a local sunday league (are equivalent to Mansfield League).

However, there may be one or two dates over the course of the summer when their sunday league has free weeks etc and he has told me that there is a possibility we can get something sorted in one of those free weeks.

When their 2010 fixtures are released he's going to get in touch with me and we'll take it from there.

I can get a cheap minibus off Pembo for the weekend, if someone is willing to drive? Maybe Planty, as we all know he's teetotal.....

I received another email yesterday from Skegness's Fixture Secretary and unfortunately they are unable to host us for a Sunday game next year due to league and other club commitments.

However, they have kindly invited us to their annual 6 a side tournament on the 22nd of August 2010 (which I presume will include other teams from Lincolnshire and surrounding areas etc).

Would anybody be still up for this? I dont mind organising a side if we can get the numbers.

Iv'e told Skeggy CC that I will give them an answer early in the new year.
