Im I right in thinking the 2nds pay less than the 1sts on a match day?

If this is correct why cant the 2nd team players all chuck an extra 50p or £1 in the pot a week to cover Davids £10?

In my opinion I dont think that is a lot to ask to have the benifit of a scorer week in week out!

2nds pay £8 1sts pay £10

1sts also have the pleasure of an overseas playing for them and have to pay umpires more

its thanks but no thanks for me im afraid. the other thin not mentioned so far is that gareth is there week in week out and does his job for the benefit of the club and is a season long commitment.

if the club wants to fritter away over £400 on scorers i have to ask what have i been doing busting my plums for? perhaps those that want to play scorers can come up

the thirds and julie for us have scored in the spirit of the club and should be commended. im all for free teas and a few drinks in the bar (which im sure tea total mrs clarke would welcome)

the comment about making us look better by having a scorer quite franklly doesnt wash in divisions 5n and 8n im afraid.

and dave not aimed at you mate but the firsts may contribute the most individual as a match fee but i bet as a team they dont;-)

going back to chiefs post perhaps if a few more supported, attended and contibuted to the welfare of the club we wouldnt have to discuss a £10 fee for scoring.

as i have stated before far more worthwhile things to spend money on

oh and dave if you wonder why you pay more than the seconds or dare i say the thirds i suggest you ask dave clarke when the last time was he bowled with a new ball.

I was not going to get into this 'debate' but I would just like to say that I am happy to score for no payment - I am already there to watch Brad and seem to be the only 'spectator'.

I would however not be offended if you decided to pay David because I think that if you are going to the game purely to score then you earn every penny. Not the easiest job!!

Comments also noted re Sunday friendly. Bar cleaned out - lots of fellow 'tee totallers' came across from Welfare and had a good afternoon / evening. Have told them all that they can get a drink any time and not just when I am there so hopefully they will become 'regulars'.

Hope to have a good turn out at barbecue on Friday - have told everybody to come across for a drink!!

seriously thanks for all your and daves efforts, especially on sunday.

Chris,

What difference does it make that we have an overseas playing for us in the 1sts so therefore we should pay more?

Bravo,

Know where your comming from with the 'team contribution' but thats not our fault the club doesn't take subs off 4 or 5 players each week.

Thought the extra 50p a week on subs etc wasnt a bad idea!

Greabo

Overseas costs money and is mainly for the benefit of the first XI
The fact you always have umpires is a big point an all
firsts always have a good new ball

you may pay an extra £2 but over the course of the season much more money will come in from 2nds and 3rds subs as there are less outgoings for these teams due to not having to pay umpires every week etc etc

Still can't see why the idea of paying a scorer has caused an issue, can't be many clubs in local cricket who'd rather not have a scorer to keep costs down

i think the debate is about what is nessesery for the game / Team to run effectively and smothly in the seconds and also what is required by the rules of the legue,

basically as i have understood it the seconds do not "need" a Scorer according to the rules of their division, i agree that £10 for 6 hours of scoring is very good value and no doupt is an asset to any team what ever the division,

but the facts are that the clubs financial position would be stronger if the second teams' book was done by the palyers, and as previously mentioned there are a couple of players that are quite capable and are happy to do this.

You have to think what else could the money be used for?? and weigh up the options. personnaly i think that a scorer in the 2nds would be nice but is not a Necessity, so i would suggest that the players continue to fill out the book for as long as it is practicable, but if there was ever a situation that arises such as the book is not being filled out correctly, filling out the book becomes a bind on the players or complaints are made from opposition teams / League then the arrangements should be reviewed, and then an EGM could be called for a vote. but at the moment the £220 saved over the season can buy a lot of other things, such as Junior kit, kwick cricket equipmet, or to pay for the renovation work that has to be undertaken each season etc... not to mention all the little things that are paid for each week so the club can logistically function to a respectable level.

Dear All
I have been reading this thread with interest and I think its about time we put the whole thing to bed. Thanks for all those who have offered to help with scoring and I do think we need another paid scorer that will be able to fill Gareths shoes should he ever decide to step down.

However, there is no budget for a second (or third team scorer) and it is unfair to ask players to increase their match fees to pay for one. I do not want to pay out for any scorers (other than Gareth) for the rest of the season. I am hoping for the first time in many years that we will have a surplus at the end of the season. Paying for extra scorers may scupper that surplus.

I will look at it again for 2010 and we can all discuss it at the AGM.'

Thanks

'Moustacheoed Treasurer

can i surgest we leave this now, i think its fair to say we have all voiced our opinion on this subject. if joes happy doing the book while we r batting and if julie is happy to do it while we r fielding then its job dun, its cost nowt and book gets dun.

On 22/6 I asked the decison makers to step forward because on the 19/6 the 2nd X1 captain was happy to have a scorer and "will sort out from the following week." At 15:42 on the same day JG indicated that ".. it is not just a decision for the captain .."

Debate / comment continued until the Treasurer post on 23/6 stating "I do not want to pay out for a scorer (other than Gareth) for the rest of the season ... I will look at it again in 2010"

Is the Treasurer's decision final? On 22/6 the Chairman said "I leave it to you mass debaters to think about it & then decide but beware of what you wish for."

So what is the decision making process within the club? Has a decision been reached on this occasion? If so, as I requested on 22/6 "please can someone confirm as soon as possible so we can plan for the weekend. Cheers."

i would say that the consensus was that the second team would not be requiring a scorer this year, i will speak to the secretary and find out who can make the decision official,

but would imagine that to recruit a scorer Mid season (not at an AGM) that it would have to be voted upon at an EGM either by the committee or by the whole membership, and as this diddn't happen i would say that things would stay at the same position as they where following the last AGM, but i will ask me Dad to confirm.

You have had your answer from the treasurer now take your spoon and stir somewhere else.

oh and as far as i was aware the 'decision makers' are responsable to club members. are you a club member?

Asking about the decision making process and seeking confirmation of a particular decision is greeted with accusations of spoons and stirrings. Mmmm! Sounds like another club decision made!

I've been watching this thread for a while and was fearing it would head this way as its not the correct place to discuss it whoever the decision makers are and unfortunately its taken the turn i thought it may. Can i suggest that as far as discussing it on here goes we draw a line under it and do it via the old fashioned method of sitting around a table and discussing it!!

I dont want to get heavy handed on here but lets not forget its a public face of the club and its not just us that read it. I can make it so that everyone has to register to post and i'll have email addresses for you all etc so i can track who has posted what but dont want to go down that route as i fear it will spoil it. Dont get all high and mighty and say stuff on here behind a random screen name that you wouldnt say to someone in person.

right well nottys comments certainly take 2 reads to get your head around!!

i think its left for now as its mid season and things are running with out a fuss at the minute in the without a designated scorer so leave it for now and pick it up at the AGM

were just going round in circles here

The decision from the Treasurer was clear. I asked if this was final and it appears from the comments since that it is indeed.

I also raised a question as to the decision making process within the club and I'll leave that for you as one day it may have some significance.

Thanks to all for the contributions on this thread. As the Chairman said, "Debate is healthy. Facts & questions are"

JonB - I hope you get your wish that people don't "say stuff on here behind a random screen name that you wouldnt say to someone in person."
