Agree with Hatchy on the kids and yes it is down the success of the junior setup. The main problem as far as i can see is the fact that they seem to keep finishing later and later each week. Think it was gone 8:45pm when the seniors finally got going which is a bit of a ball ache when you've been there since 8pm. However it is good to see nets being well attended for once!!

In terms of facilities i dont think you are going to get anywhere locally that will have more than 2 nets but at Tupton you do have the space to the side to practice fielding, for sunil to do his batting bits, sit around waiting, kick a football around really hard etc etc

Thinking ahead for next winter maybe we need to be looking at separate nights or starting the kids earlier.....but then you can guarentee that no bugger will turn up!!

Unfortunately couldnt make nets this week, but agree with alex's comments on kids should bat last etc! I thought the junior nets were before the seniors. However, some kids are really comming on and suppose batting against the seniors will bring them on more! Bit of a funny situation but suppose we should be glad we got good kids comming through!


As for other lad whos had more clubs than Nick Faldo, dont even get me started!! He bowls his crap spin at everybody else but as soon as somebody younger goes in he trys and knocks their head off...tit!

£98 pound took last nite. After ive took my 15% (which is actually the 'new carpet fund' in the new house) is pretty good. was a bit daft last nite tho, espcially for the purist- type batsmen like myself - we were in an out quicker than ashovers top 6.
think problem last nite was kids batted for too long???????

dont you lot pick on manesh..................thats my job! Good thing last night was i got to practise a little pre season sledging.

i have called daz also and told him that if ashover need any extra practise they can come to our nets no prob

for me its simple.

as i understand it kids can start from 7:30 so that the start and they finish at 8:30. especially if half a dozen juniors are batting with the seniors(which i think is a good idea).

it takes longer for me to pad up than it did to bat last night. personally i find nets more a social thing than getting real practise. luckily i can play myself in as i walk to then net but for people like lemon, al murray, hatch and bob it must be a nightmare! by the time they were ready they only had time for one attacking shot (and what a nice one bobs was off pauls last ball!!)

Too repeat. We cant expect kids to net at 10.00 on a weekday. We cant have any earlier times or a different day as thats all that is available.
Originally we had 7.45 til 8.30 for kids & 8.30 to 9.45 for adults but we got this extended to 10.00. This gives an hour for kids & an hour & quarter for adults which is fair.
If the kids are overunning say something (why do you turn up at 8.00?). As I already posted the numbers attending is unbeleivable & this is a better problem than we have had in the past when very few turned up. There are lots of clubs out there who would love to have the kids set up we have (already 2 of our juniors have already been approached by another club)
It will be interesting to see how many attend outside nets in the season.

The reason people turn up at 8ish is because at the start of the season thats what people were told as a start time. Also back then it was 8:30pm that we started and the majority didnt know the kids had been extended for 15mins so we actually start at 8:45pm now.

Agree that kids cant go last and that for the current nets it cant be changed but possibly something to look at for next season.

As for saying something....most of us did last night...still was after 8:45 when we finally got going.

Out of interest, how many sessions have we got left?

If too many there for everyone to bat them I'm afraid priority must go to batsmen, batsmen bat, bowlers bowl - no point the likes of me, Elsey or Rich paying 3 quid to come and not have a bat!

na then can we stop avin a go at manesh, nets last night took it to far and you all no it sledging yes but racism is too far boys. if he wants to go then thats his choice and we should wish him the best of luck. if he had of been there then came back again, then i could of understood the sledging but we took it too far and i wouldnt be suprised if we never see him again because of the racist comments some of you lot made.

as for the kids batting its not as if we have cars is it so we can only get picked up at certain times. if i was able to stay longer then i would definetly bat later but on a school night i cant stay

next week tho i maybe able to because weve broke up 4 easter.

and it doesnt help me does it bowling spin at the younger kids but i have to put up with it which is what i think weve all got to do make the most of the sessions weve got.

even so to be fair i think we should of done a survey for what the starting times should of been.

we have given daz, hound alex plenty of stick for leaving etc its called banter. if youve got as much front as brighton by turning up to one clubs nets when your playin for someone else you should expect some stick. cant imagine daz or hound turning up at our nets now. and as most of us would class them both as mates they would still get some proper hammer (perhaps even more so) if they turned up at our nets now that they have pledged an allegiance to ashover.

if you think that was bad you wont last long in the big bad world of mens cricket especially at the cross as we are always ripping into each other.

maybe you heard something i didnt dunno.

while we r havin a moan, heres another one.
i was a bit pissed off last nite at the amount of senior players pissing around playing football at the side of the batting nets, while the kids r still batting. one very young lad got hit in the belly, cos he was that interested with how many keepie-upies u all could do instead of keeping both eyes on the cricket ball. i fully understand and agree with the issues with the time thing, but if there is a 15-20 min gap b4 us lot get on, if u carnt be bothered to assist with kids nets, (and u never know, if there r a number of senior players helping out, the kids may get done a bit earlier) then surly it wud be better not to play football down that end and distracting them?
i know hatch and bil help out every week and even greenie has done a bit to help out with kids, but all 3 were down there showing off their ball skills at sum point(not 100% sure if alex was, so my appologies if u werent)
instead of moaning about problems with the time we get to bat etc etc why dont we ALL be a bit more pro-active and try and help out in controling 20 odd screeming kids and trying to ensure their net session runs smoothly, instead of hanging about like ASBO gimps ?

with regards to previous comments about racism, i agree there was some evidence of racist remarks. - about a big, beer bellied canadian, slow to medium seam bowler.
On a more serious note, i can confirm that NO racist remarks were made or hinted at by anybody. rant over:-!
