I am planning on coming along but if its looking like the turnout will be similiar to normal I may head down the pub!!

Hopefully it will be on, so I can show to JB (if he comes) that my dibbily dobblers are required at midweek ( 1 over - 3 runs - Ian Harvey esck! ). haha

Will be there about 6.30 with keys. Assume Sully will also be there as the climatic conditions suggest that the criteria mentioned by him in a previous thread are forecast to be met.

I can understand team members having things to do on a week night i.e. take the kids places, do the shopping + any other commitments. However last night highlighted the question of whether we can have a net night. We should - ******* hell we SHOULD but if the majority of the people can't make it then why bother.

Last night for example there was Chief, Elsey, JC, Jordan, Sunil, Minesh, myself and a couple of juniors. Thats kind of pathetic - or am I being a bit harsh. I know people have work and family commitments but I think, unfortunatly, we may have to stop having a net night.

An additional point is that it takes about twenty mins to put up the net but with the lack of adults there last night it took nearer 40 mins! A quick bat and once Jordan had marked out his run it was time to avanti! (joke Jordan).

A think this is an issue that needs to be addressed and quickly.

It does need to be resolved Al your'e right! Perhaps not enough practice may be one of the factors in why the 1sts have struggled so much this season (batting wise especially).

I know I cried off yesterday afternoon due to being up to the balls in college work agen but I always try and make practice although I have missed a few due to junior and mid-week games etc.

I should be there next thursday but you do get fed up of seeing the same faces week in week out and it does make you wonder why bother. I know it has been said on here before by various people but things must change for us to keep moving forward!!

Anyway enough of the moaning for a bit and lets hope for some similar results from all 3 teams this weekend aswell!!

I think the problem a few have is that nets over the years have been a waste of time so they see no point in going. I know for a long time when bowling it was a case of bowl, fetch it, wait 5 mins, bowl and when batting you felt reluctant to hit it cos people had to go and fetch it!! Things are better with the cracking net we have but people still have the same perception.

We need someone to get hold of what we are doing at nets and make it worthwhile to attract people.

I suspect many will point the finger at the midweek team i run from stopping some going but i think its fair that some see that as better practice. I know i would much rather bowl and get more from bowling 3 overs in that then spend an hour bowling a few overs with the odd trip to the field every so often!!

branno your avg is slippin mate it took at least 11 post on this thread before mid wa@k league was mentioned.

Im going to be totally blunt.

majority of 2nd teamers will not net as it doesnt matter what they do they will not play consistently for 1st 11 ever. Or they are ex 1sts who are past it and have dropped down (except me as i never had it in the first place). The only exceptions to this are younger players on the way up aka Jorden Minesh etc. At 37 i now play to enjoy the game and take it a lot less seriously, without speaking for the rest of the 2s i would think that sums it up. I lighter analogy is that it doesnt matter how much you polish a t@@d its still a tu@~.

been to nets and im as guilty as the next but all sessions deteriorate into who can smash it into the horse field the farthest. it must be really good practice for the bowlers especially 2nd and 3rd team.

it would be interesting to see how many 1st 11 think their place is under threat based on performance and how many 2s think they have a realistic chance of 1st 11 cricket. My guess would be not many in either camp. Therefore where is the motivation.

if you want a proper net session that can only come from 3 people, the capts. if they are not concerned about the situation then no one else will be. I know that some will say it has to be everyones responsiblity but for me it comes down to leadership thats why you have captains in all sport. with all due respect to john else and graham requests from them to get to nets does not have the same connotations.

in my five years at the cross i dont think any captain (myself included) has told his team to get to nets so they can work on things.

Before anyone pipes up that im having a go at rich, notty or clarkey im not as ive done the job and know just how hard it is but as a club you either need leadership and inspiration to move things forward or accept the way it is and has been for years.

Hang on Greavsie. I've been up to nets every week since start of season till last night. I haven't seen you there many times so maybe you should include yourself in the problem as well.

I can see you argument Chief but last night was just a joke. I was told that as a first team member I needed to be at nets. Only Greavsie and I turned up to put the net up...okay sunil did turn up a bit later. Brick wall comes to mind.

Dave & Al.

Nobody is more frustrated than me about this but it seems to me that we must accept that ther appears to be a lack of commitment , not only in this area but also many others, to doing anything above the bare minimum of turning up every Saturday to play cricket.
Jobs that need doing for games have to be pushed on people who would rather sit on the pavilion steps rather than put out the scoreboard, turn on the hot water or take down the shutters unless they are asked or threatened or embarrased into doing it. Job needs doing just do it.
Moans about what drinks are in the fridge from people who never actually volunteer to go & get some. People who can't give up any time for the kids (are they a threat to your team place or something?)
Anyway , Greavsie, i will be there tonight as well & don't get paranoid because you are well thought of but don't expect praise from people for turning out cos I sometimes think there are a few within our club who think that if you put effort into anything you are a mug.

Rant over.

well, i couldnt attend last nite as id broke my flask (again). all the previous comments r rite, it is poor. however, we have a bowling machine so in theory 2 people cud hav a net, yes i know it wud be a ball ache putting everything up with 2 of u, but it can be dun cos ive dun it. it aint ever going to change so we have to make the best of a **** situation, and if only a handful attend nets then we (those of us who go up) have to try and enjoy, get sum decent practice, have a laff, or just take sum frustration out on the ball.
i totally agree with alex, dave and graham, and i get even more pissed off than others as im not really in a fit state to be netting, never mind humping nets around and stuff, however i do it cos i dont mind. i will be there 2nite dave, so if u want another net after kids (if its not too late) me and u will have a private net, mmmmmmmmmatron!!! and just hope this extra batting helps on saturday, cos if we loose to riddings, we will most definatly be deep in the ****.
But it seems that senior players and captains of all 3 teams arnt really that bothered. part of a captains job is to be at nets to try and sort out sat teams, the only skip who i have seem is clarke, who actually rings round as early as tuesday to try and get things sorted, if the captains arnt bothered why shud the younger players, or the players who have nothing to prove?!
i am very very impressed with j crowder and e crowder and minesh and luke, very rearly do they miss a net practice, and u can c the improvment to all of their games. even big fat nige turns up!!!
things have to improve, or it will end up like my former club, as this is how it started there, with nobody turning up 2 nets etc etc. dont say i didnt warn u all!!!
to be honest i am getting very fed up (as sum others are) and my willingness to turn out this season is falling, i shudnt be playing this year do to my fitness, but have made the effort to try and take the club forward, but i am now coming to the point of 'why shud i'?? why shud i knacker myself up, for a team where the majority have no committment to the welfare of the club!
