The Taster sessions will give you the chance to try out new sports and to encourage you to continue with one of the sports after the 6 week offer.
Six week taster sessions will continue to be offered in a number of sports from April 2012 these will include, dodge ball, karate, judo, unihoc and curling cycling and goalball as well as those offered in this block and other sports that are being developed.
The Cost
6 sessions, paid in Advance £20
Sessions paid individually £3.50 (£21)
If you choose to do more than 6 sessions in this block you will not pay for the 7th session after which you pay £18 for the following 6 or £3.20 per session.
The sessions are aimed at 14-25 year olds with a disability although younger participants and young people who do not have a disability or who have a specific learning difficulty are also welcome. All participants will receive a certificate and will be able to apply for units from a number of Asdan Certificates on completion.

On 17/2/12, 10 - 3pm at Freemans Quay there will be some junior (under 16) have a go disability sports run by Durham CC.
Sports that you can choose from
Swimming: We have two swimming groups one at Sunderland and the other at Durham. The taster sessions are swimming sessions for Beginners – confident swimmers the group has a disability focus but not exclusively so. We have trained coaches/teachers who will help you to feel confident about swimming (Usual cost: £5 for 2 hours session, £3.50 for 1 hour session.)
Ten Pin Bowling: Ten pin is one of our more popular sports , the group training with T to T disability Group every other week, there are 3 trained coaches and as well as having at least two games you also get to have 15 mins of practice.(Usual cost: £6.)
Boccia: this is also another popular disability sport, it is similar to the French Game of Boules however it uses soft balls and people of all abilities can play. Wednesday evenings are a fun and relaxed time playing boccia and meeting friends, the evening also consists of a Café and savings club based at Great Lumley Methodist Church (Usual cost: £3.50.)
Table Cricket: this is one of our new disability sports which are suitable for all abilities. Again held on Wednesday evenings at Great Lumley Methodist Church. (Usual cost: £3.50.)
Football: Football is for young people of mixed ability both Girls and Boys, Juniors and Seniors. During the winter it is held at Houghton Kepier School and in the Summer at Lumley Junior School Playing field This group also has links with ‘If U Care Share’. (Usual cost: £3.50.)
