Members Information 3rd March 2015

By BR - March 3 2015

Firstly in this edition I have been asked by several members to go over some of the benefits that are associated with Club membership that some members may not be aware of so here goes.

Possibly the main bonus is our link with Eaglescliffe Golf Club which means that members of Arcot Hall can play golf free of charge at Eaglescliffe on any day apart from Saturdays. This is of course subject to availability and you would need to contact Eaglescliffe first to make sure that the course is not booked for another event but I know that many of our members have visited Eaglescliffe and if you are not one of those yet I would encourage you to go and give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

As a course that was designed by James Braid we have joined the “Braid Association”. This, as the name suggests, is a group of courses designed by Braid who have formed an association that allows the playing members of all the member courses to obtain discounted green fee rates. Several members have taken advantage of these rates over the past two years and a full list of participating courses can be found downstairs in the clubhouse or on the club website.

Also Arcot Hall is a member of the Newcastle and District Golf Partnership which is a group of 12 clubs that got together several years ago to share best practice and to extend reciprocal green fee rates to each others members. As a result members of Arcot Hall can play on the other courses paying only the members guest rate. The courses are Alnmouth (Foxton), Bedlington, Blyth, City of Newcastle, Gosforth, Morpeth, Newcastle United, Ponteland, The Northumberland, Tynemouth and Tyneside.

The 1909 Club is a group of clubs who were all formed in 1909 who got together in their Centenary Year to form a group. The main benefit of this group is that as a members of Arcot Hall you can play any of the other member clubs once each year free of charge. We are rejoining this Club for 2015 and when the process is complete a list of participating clubs will be posted on our website.

With the 1909 Club, the Braid Association and the N & DGP you need to contact the host club in advance of your visit and you will need proof of your Arcot Hall membership in the form of either your membership disc or your bar card.

The more obvious benefits of golf club membership include play on a fantastic James Braid designed course, the number 1 restaurant in Cramlington (trip advisor), ability to play in 3 competitions each week should you wish, up to 20% discount on bar prices and a range of membership categories to suit every lifestyle.

When you add to the above the fact that any child or grandchild of a member aged 16 or under can join the Club for a subscription of only £30 per year as well as adult playing members receiving a voucher to bring 3 guests free of charge and the membership referal scheme where any member who introduces a new 5, 6 or 7 day member received a voucher for £50 to put onto their bar card it all adds up to a very strong membership package.

Also the events list for March 2015 can be found on the website here. Please take particular note of the Ladies match this coming Sunday starting at 11.00 and of the Rules Night on Friday 27th and a social evening on Saturday 28th.

As I had mentioned previously work has begun on the removal of some trees that was recommended by the agronomist and then approved by the Greens and General Committees. This work will be ongoing over the next few weeks so don’t be surprised if you notice one or two of the trees that you regularly come into contact with missing next time you play.

The course generally has wintered well and the greens although still quite soft do have a good covering of disease free fine grasses which bodes well for the coming season particularly if we have a warm spring. The softness of the greens does mean there are quite a number of un-repaired pitchmarks about so yet again we would ask you to please repair them whenever you see them whether you have made them or not.

The fixture booklets should be with us soon and those members who have paid their 2015 subscriptions can pick up their new stickers and 3 ball vouchers from behind the bar.

That’s it for now. All we need now is a bit of decent weather to go along with the nights getting lighter and before you know it the clocks will have gone forward and the Masters will be on TV.

Kind Regards

Brian Rumney
