Competition results from last week include a victory for Scott Mallen in the midweek stableford with 38 points pipping Steve Hepplewhite on a countback with Gary Foxwell a point further back in 3rd place.

Saturday saw Greg Barber win the Andrews Trophy with 43 points by 1 from George Martin in second place who in turn finished a point ahead of Dave Southern on 41 points in 3rd. As this was Greg’s second “exceptional score” in a short period of time the computer (not me!) reduced his handicap by an extra 2 shots meaning he is now playing off 8 which is great progress as he started the year off 13.1.

The Sunday stableford saw Bill Stobbs return a score of 43 points winning by 2 from Anthony Rayner and Tony Mullarkey who were second and third respectively on 41. Mark Malloy, who knows Bill well, assures me ths is totally out of character for Bill and says he can almost guarrantee he won’t do anything like this again.

Also congratulations are due to Barry Forbes who won the Calcutta last Sunday beating John Todd in the final 3 & 1.

Order of Merit update now sees Steve Hepplewhite top with 203.85 points from Steve Lord with 178 and Gavin Foster still on 177.5 points in third. Those in contention are starting to show some interest in where the others are finishing in the competitions as it gets towards the sharp end of the season and Steve has even given up alcohol to try and get an edge but no one expects that to last.

Hopefully this will be the final time that I have to send out a list of re-arranged fixtures this year. The programme for the next few weeks is now as follows. The golf day scheduled for this coming Friday has now been moved to a Friday in October. This Saturday we have the Bradbury Cup with the Carlsberg Trophy the following day. The sheets are up for both of these events with the Carlsberg sheet on the notice board in the Lounge.

The following Saturday 27th September we have England v The Rest of the World with the Winter League starting the following day. The Arcotian and Stag event due to take place on the 28th September has now been put back to Sunday 5th October with the tee being booked between 11.00 and 11.30. Would all those who were invited to this event by the Captain please note the change of date and let me know if you are available for the new one.

Saturday 4th October will now be the Brough Cup with the Arcot Vase now being played on Saturday 11th October. The Club Supper takes place the night of the 11th October and the list for this event is now up in the gent’s locker room.

The Captain vs The Vice Captain match will now be held on Saturday 25th October with the NJGA Trophy on Saturday 18th October.

All these changes are included on the updated September events list that accompanies this email and will be on the October list when it is circulated later this month.

Tickets are still available for the Barbeque which is being held alongside the Junior Trophy Presentation evening on Saturday. Please purchase or reserve them by phone over the next two days or the event may have to be cancelled as so far only 23 have been sold.

The agronomist came for his annual visit last Friday and his report will be with us in about 3 weeks time (I will let you know when it arrives). I would encourage members to read the report when it is published as it will give you a better understanding of the work we do on the greens and why we need to do it and also it will give you an idea of what progress has been made over the last few years.

Kind Regards

Brian Rumney
