Results from a busy Bank Holiday weekend to follow but first reports of a crow stealing golf balls from the 15th green! I am hearing that the featherd felon swooped down on Mohammad Farsi’s golf ball as it lay on the green, picked it up in it’s beak and was last seen flying over the tree tops still clutching the ball. Now it is true that it is not the most unusual sight to see one of Mohammad’s balls flying over the tree tops and indeed one cruel person said the most unusual thing about the story was the fact that Mo’s ball was somewhere near the green in the first place! All I can say is the last time I played against Mo I was level par after 9 and 6 down. However I thought it was a bit harsh of his playing partners to suggest that he either play his next shot from the trees or find the birds nest, climb the tree Langer style and play his next from there!!

The Junior Fundraiser 4 BBB was played on Saturday and the players currently lying first and second in the order of merit played together. If form is anything to go by they should therefore have won and sure enough Steve Hepplewhite and Gavin Foster finished first with 44 points. Runners up were Davis Knaggs and Ronnie Moat with 42 points with Darren Thompson and Michael Crane a point further back in third.

Sunday was our first Men’s Open of the year and it was good to see home players in the prizes with Michael Davison and Tom Brooks finishing first with 42 points and Trevor Kennedy and his partner second on 41. Although the day got off to a fairly damp start the rain stopped after the first hour or so and we received lots of good feedback about the course from those who played despite all the rainfall that had fallen late last week. Thanks to all who helped out starting the event Jane Bainbridge, Paul Brennan, Michael Richardson and of course Captain Bob who not only started the first group off at 7.28 but was also on hand to do the presentation after the last group came in.

Highlight of the weekends golf however was Josh Brookes winning the junior medal. You may recall from an earlier email Josh winning the junior medal on Easter Monday and being disappointed that he dropped a shot on the last hole to shoot level par gross. He was disappointed because he had never before gone round Arcot under par in a competition. Well he didn’t have to wait too long because a fantastic gross 67 nett 64 saw him not only win the medal but also got his handicap down to 2.

The Mixed on Bank Holiday Monday was won by Paul Brennan and Doreen Mallen helped no doubt by Doreen holing out from about 100 yards on the last! Also well done to the Vice Capatin, Peter Wylie and his partner Adrianne Thompson won the first Bank Holiday Mixed event on Easter Monday.

Winner of the midweek Stableford was Andy Cunningham who moved further up the order of merit with a score of 36 points. Steve Robinson was second and Chris Barnett third all with the same 36 points. Well done in particular to Steve who is one of our newer members who I played a few holes with the other week and given his play that day it is somewhat of a surprise to see him in the top 3.

That’s it for a while as I am having a week off work next week and won’t be back until Monday 19th May so no update until later that week.

Kind Regards

Brian Rumney
