Sorry I ‘m a bit late with the competition results this week but better late than never.

One of the reasons for the delay is I’ve had taken a while to come to terms with the scoring in the Domino Salvers whichwas nothing short of spectacular. Third was Mike Stanley and Brian Rutherford with a score of 65.2 which would have been good enough to win the event most years which is even more the case for Chris Coppen and Mal Brittain who were second with 64.6. The winners with a fantastic score of 61.8 were David Foster and Ian Irving off handicaps of 9 and 12 respectively which means they went round in 2 over par gross which takes some doing in Greensomes.

The Winter League final day was a damp affair but in true Winter League style most players with the exception of myself soldiered on. The morning winners were Gavin Foster and Michael Wilson with 43 points and in the afternoon John Moller and Wnter League winner John “fluffy” Burke won with an eyebrow raising score of 48 points off ¾’s allowance! It was a good day all round for Gavin Foster who also won the 2 longest drives and 1 of the 2 nearest the pin prizes on offer (Gary didn’t win anything).

Gavin is currently lying second in the order of merit 5 points behind leader Steve Hepplewhite but there is a long way to go yet boys.

The Monthly Medal on Wednesday was won by Bill Brydon with a nett 67 by one from Steve Hepplewhite who in turn finished 4 ahead of Gary Lawson. Scoring proved difficult for all but the first 2 with standard scratch for the day ending up at 72 which make the scores of the first 2 players a little more special.

Bad news from the Ladies section is that they went out of the first round of the T R Percy at home to Northumberland by 4 matches to 3. The winner of the second Rose Bowl qualifier was Lorraine Whiteman with Lady Captain Gloria Melrose second. Anne Carter and Evelyn Blakey won the Coronation Foursomes yesterday on a count back from Lorraine Whiteman and Betty Beeby.

The Seniors are doing well in the league so far this year with a draw and a win from their first 2 matches. Our Seniors pick their teams to give everyone who wants to play a chance to do so rather than picking their “strongest” team every week so this is a great start to the season.

The first men’s match of the season was due to be played last Thursday but a monsoon struck Wednesday night and continued through Thursday morning finally finishing about 14.00 and leading to the course being closed throughout Thursday. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday evening so please note that the tee will be reserved on Tuesday from 17.00 – 18.30.

Kind Regards

Brian Rumney
