First Team Update - Apr 16th 07
By Paul Lewis - April 16 2007
With 8 games to go, manager Paul Lewis gives a brief update on the mood in the camp and reflects on the last 3 games - 2 victories & 1 defeat >
On Wednesday 18th April 2007, we welcome Treharris Athletic to the Dingle as we look to continue to pick up the vital points required in our fight against relegation. 10 days ago when we met at the Athletic Ground, we put in an excellent performance to come away with all 3 points and it was the first time we had gained back to back league victories this season.

The 2-1 victory was a much needed confidence booster going into the business end of the season and was settled by an excellent 30 yard strike from Dai Cann. I have to say that if that goal had been scored in the Premiership it would have been shown time and time again. Although Dai won us the game with that strike, special praise has to go to one of the other former CRC players, Kevin “Melly” Melville who was outstanding on the day against a centre forward who was probably 6 inches taller than him. It was not the first time that Melly has produced that kind of performance and he is thoroughly enjoying his first experience of Welsh League football and does not look out of place. Let’s hope both players can have a major influence on tonight’s game and we can turn in another good performance to produce the win needed.

The back to back wins against Merthyr Saints & Treharris Athletic gives us a massive chance of avoiding the drop and we went into last Wednesday’s derby against West End full of confidence. Our preparations for the game were not helped due to the work commitments of Dai Cann & Neil Simon and the fact the game had been arranged as a 6pm kick off. Within 2 minutes, we went   1-0 down from what looked like the ball was handled into the net. Playing against a West End side packed full of quality players on a surface that resembled the Sahara desert, we found it difficult to get a foothold in the game and went in at the break 2-0 down. We started the second half brightly and made some chances only to full further behind when a dubious penalty was awarded by referee Ken Wright. Another former CRC player reduced the deficit with a great strike from 30 yards, his first goal for the club and West End added a fourth just before the end of the game. Let’s hope the boys can put that performance behind us and focus on the target of 5 wins from our remaining 8 games. It is not impossible and I will ensure that we give it all we’ve got to keep this club in the second division.

Best of luck for tonight and Saturday-six points from these two games will make all the difference.
