First Away Win of the Season Secured

Our first evening game of the season under the floodlights at Penydarren park, Merthyr brought us our first away league win of the season. We made the short trip up the A470 showing 4 changes to the side that was beaten by Briton Ferry last Saturday with Jon Coates, Scott Horton, Peter Osborne & Nicky Jones replacing Derek Jenkins, Leighton Connor, Rob Hidle & Mike Gammon.

The team on the evening was managed by First Team Assistant Manager Steve Brown & Reserve Team Manager Kevin Lewis in the absence of Paul Lewis.

Merthyr Saints took an early lead but we replied just before half time when a Paul sweeney cross was turned in by Jonathan Coates.

In the second half Merthyr came out fired up and went looking for the second goal. we rode our luck on times but the back four of Neil Simon, Kevin Melville, Sean Davies & Scott Horton gelled together and put in a gritty second half performance to keep the Merthyr forwards at bay. With 20 minutes to go and with confidence growing, some good individual work from Dai Rowe produced our second goal.

This win sets us up for our remaining 10 games to avoid relegation starting away at Treharris this Saturday. With players like Nicky Jones who came into the side for his first 1st team start of the season outstanding on the right hand side of midfield, this gives us the lift we needed and hopefully will give us the incentive to face the challenges ahead in the coming weeks.
