Official Morriston Town
Preview v Briton Ferry
By Paul Lewis - March 30 2007
With 12 games to go till the end of the season, we face our local rivals Briton Ferry at home on Saturday. Neil "Nelly" Simon who has re-signed from Pontardawe Town will add some experience to our squad and will help in our fight against relegation. >

On Saturday we welcome our local neighbours Briton Ferry  to the Dingle as we look to pick up points in our fight against relegation. This is the first time we have faced each other this season and I am sure it will be a fiercely contested local derby as there is a lot as stake especially for us as we look to pick up a much needed win in our fight to avoid the dreaded drop. With 12 games left to go in what has been a very disappointing season, our destiny is in our own hands as most of our remaining games are against teams who are also fighting for survival.

We gave an excellent account of ourselves in our last home game against Bettws going down 1-0 against a side who will be there or there abouts at the top of the division come the end of the season. We showed some good character in that game and I was pleased with the way we performed but yet again it was a case of what might have been had we taken the chances that came our way.

Last weekend we made the long trip to another one of the promotion contenders, Caldicot Town. Having played quite well in the first half and probably created the best chances, we went into the half time break on level terms with the game nicely poised at 0-0. All our hard work was undone within 5 minutes of the second half when we conceded another sloppy goal. This opened the floodgates and we eventually went down 5-0. When you are struggling everything seems to go against you and our cause wasn’t helped with the fact that only one official was present at the game and 2/3 of the goals on another day would probably been ruled offside.

We have managed to re-sign Neil “Nelly” Simon form Pontardawe Town and he will hopefully give us a bit of a lift in the remaining games. Neil is an experienced and versatile player and will hopefully give us the balance we have been missing in recent weeks. Other than our long term casualties - Andrew Shaw (groin) and Marc Baker (knee), we are at full strength with all the players on duty last week available for selction. Derek Jenkins could be added to the squad after missing last week's game due to work commitments.

With our reserve team not in action this weekend, we are hoping for a large crowd for the local derby against a side who have hit some form of late. They beat local rivals West End 2-0 on Wednesday night and will go into the game full of confidence.
