Official Wells RFC

Wells colts return to winning ways when they defeated local rivals Chew Valley on Sunday. >

Wells colts 43 – 12 Chew Valley colts

Wells looked a rejuvenated team in attack during this very muddy encounter. A new ethos of fast running rugby with lots of offloads was just the trick to beat Chew Valley. Start from the off Wells attacked and within a minute of kick off Sam Whiteworth was over in the left hand corner. Then Lewis Cohen converted his own try after riding some tackles and Shane Costelloe scored a pick and drive under the posts. Chew Valley replied with a interception on their own line to run the whole pitch and score. Then the hooker Andrew Whittaker finished off a well worked break by Wells. It was then half time and the sun decided to join the party after some heavy rain.

The pitch was a huge puddle; but play continued. Lewis Birch gave some typically strong handoffs to powerfully break through many tacklers at once and score. Then it was James Sturgess' turn to score after having a great game at flanker making breaks all game and stopping most of Chews. Then Chew got a deserved try from a strong runner after a spell of pressure in Wells' half. However with the last play of the match Wells added another try under the posts that was finished in ruthless style by Tim Gibbons.
