Wells Uniteds difficult season continued with another loss at home to Weston Super Mare III. The city side must now concentrate on forthcoming crunch games to move up the table. >

Wells II 12 Weston Super Mare III 41

Wells second strings poor run of results continued again on Saturday in a season which only comprises of two victorys to date.

However for the first thirty minutes of the game Wells were equal if not better than there thier sea-side opponents, defending the halfway line as it were there own try line.

In that thirty minute period Wells defence stood firm, Mark Greggs power being used to full effect as he lead the waves of Wells forward thinking defence. This intense defencive effort however could not hold out for forty minutes let alone eighty and the Wells players began to tire giving Weston Super Mare the oppurtunity to run the Wells pack around the paddock at every given opportunity.

Wells were then helpless to the hoards of Weston attacks that followed. To thier credit Wells never took a backward step and if that thirty minute passage could only have continued the final score may have been very different, only five ponits separting the teams at that point.

The second half continued in the same vain, as Westons superior fitness levels shone through and took the game out of Wells reach. Wells did get on the scoresheet twice though as there persistannce payed dividends. Once through Martin Gibbs and secondly through a remarkable series of events that saw Poderick 'O'Driscoll' Boyle show fine indiviudal skill to skip, spin and finally jump past six defenders to touch down to give the score a fairer look.

Credit must go to Josh Stewart, whos senior repuation continues to grow with another titanic performance at number eight, but also the whole team for showing considerable disicpline despite the referees strange stance on handling the ball on the floor, this being it is ok to do so.

With a weeks break forthcoming, the Wells second team must begin to realise that without victorys against Ivel Barbarians and Somerton there league fixtures next year could be far more straight forward.
