Wells U/16’s moved in to the Semi-Final of the Somerset cup with an impressive display away at Frome. Conditions not favouring the Wells side, with an awkward wind and heavy pitch, Wells controlled the game throughout. Saul Thompson playing his first fixture for the Club opened the scoring after an impressive Wells drive, brought the visitors to within 5 metres of the Frome line, quick ball saw Saul power for the line, Joe Watson added the conversion and Wells had quickly stamped their authority on the fixture. The pack worked hard and battled throughout, not always getting the decisions and at times allowed their frustration to get the better of them; Tom White controlled the pack and Wells took the game on another level. The backs enjoying space and superior handling went through set plays and good running lines, bringing quick results seeing David Wheatley score his first try for his new club after joining at the beginning of the season. Nick Loxton added the 3rd after a well orchestrated move through the backs to end the half with Wells ahead 0 – 17.

The second half was always going to be a different game with Wells playing in to at times a gale force wind. Wells electing to keep the ball in hand saw their formidable pack run the game. Pick and drive tactics brought significant yardage gains; ball carrier being ably supported and secured good ball on the floor. “Man of the Match” Harry Davies leading from the front, ably supported by Tom Payne, Mike Forscutt and the whole of the Wells Pack. Jonathan Elliott securing ball from the breakdown and kept phases of play moving swiftly kept Wells focused and didn’t allow the Home side back in to the tie. The impressive Joe Watson added the 4th try and the ever running Nick Loxton added his second and the City sided Fifth try as they ran away with the tie to win 27 – 0.
