Official Wells RFC

By Jamie Costello - December 18 2007
The city side colts lost their league game of the year to a powerful Weston Hornets side. However if all their chances had been taken and tackles not missed then things may have been different ...... >

Wells Colts 13, Weston Hornets Colts 17

Playing up the slope in the first half wells opened the scoring with a penalty from Lewis Cohen. Hornets came back with a hard earned unconverted try in the corner. Again the city side were awarded a penalty with Cohen slotting over to give wells back the lead, 6-5. Hornets then had a period of sustained pressure on the wells defence with the back row trio of Cohen, Costelloe and Sturgess playing particularly well. However in the end the away team got another try in the corner to make it 10-6 to Hornets at half time.

Wells started well after the break and started asking questions of the hornets defence, but having go themselves out of their own half Hornets managed to score a breakaway try in the corner to stretch their lead to 17-6. Wells again came back strongly applying pressure resulting in at least three kickable penalties, but wells became blinkered into going for the line. This was all the more regretful when Shane Costelloe scored a try after a quick tap penalty and Cohen made it 3 out of 3 with the conversionto leave Wells 4 points short. Alas the final whistle and wells were left pondering what might of been if chances were taken. MOTM: James Sturgess
