SOMERSET 3 SOUTHERN LEAGUE
WELLS 3rds MATCH REPORT
DATE SATURDAY 29/09/2007.
VENUE WELLS RFC
WELLS RUGBY 3RDS 0 (0)
WIVELISCOMBE 2NDS 15 (5)
In warm bright conditions Wells RFC 3rd fifteen continued their new venture within the confines of the Somerset Southern 3rd League. Normally home fixtures see numerous replacements, but with Three Wells sides competing, only 1 replacements was available arriving late. The Visitors boasted 6 replacements and used their rotation to great effect.
Wells fielding a heavy pack, were under pressure from the outset, but settled well and produced some secure, solid rugby. The visitors were a handful, competing in every department, and with the City side having 2 powerful centres couldn’t make inroads in to the Wiveliscombe twenty two. A hard fought first half was a gritty forward battle, but the Visitors managed a score 2 minutes before the break.
The second half settled in to the same pattern as the first, a total forward battle; line outs were even until Wells lost Mike Dunford, suffering from a heavy cold but again impressed in the line. Wiveliscombe scored again after 65 minutes and completed their days work with a try in the 75 minutes, Wells running out steam had given their all. A good team spirit is the backbone of this side, and all agreed that although in defeat, has provided a stern test for the visitors.
