Eaton scoring after switching direction to great effect, and Wells held the slender lead to half time.
Wellington enjoying 8 replacements, changed the pack to gain mobility, but lost its lion share of the set pieces, but in open play were effective, and shortly after the break scored a converted try after a series of drives. Wells took time to reaffirm themselves and Wellington scored another converted try to lead 14 – 5 after 50 minutes. Wells pushed back to their 22, elected to run out of defence and with Joe Phelps starting the offensive, Kane Truckles 80 metre sprint to score under the posts. Sam Hartley added the conversion, and the City side started to dominate. Quick tries followed by Shaun Eaton, Mike Brown and Ted Rowe completed the game with Sam Hartley adding another conversion; the City side ran away with the fixture, but credit to Wellington who battled hard and managed a score in the final minute.
