After visiting Ealing the week before it was the Richmond Impalas turn to host the Jades...
The Impalas faced strong opposition when they played Ealing at home and were lucky to win 12-20. It was always going to be a tough return match and the pace was set early on with the Impalas getting within 5 yards of the try line only to turn the ball over and watch the Jades run the length of the pitch for a try under the posts.
The Impalas had the majority of the territory and possesion though and it wasn't long before they scored the first of six tries. The second try came shortly after when Kapo claimed the ball at kickoff and broke several lines of defence to score under the posts. An awesome individual effort and a great contender for try of the season!
Unfortunately disaster struck when fullback Val was chasing a Jade down and slipped, dislocating and breaking her ankle. The game shifted pitches so Val didn't have to move and an ambulance was called. Luckily for Val there was a doctor watching the men play and seeing Val on the ground he raced over and relocated her ankle before the ambulance arrived!
Once the game got going again both teams had lost their momentum and it became a hard grind for the remainder of the half with no points being scored.
After the break the game opened up again and the Impalas pushed out their lead... The Jades fought back with two tries but it wasn't enough to close the gap.
Thanks to Kapo's hatrick of tries and Hayley's almost perfect record with the boot the Impalas eventually won 43-17.
Thanks to all the supporters who came down to watch and especially to those who helped Val!!
