Beverley Colts 24 Scunthorpe Colts 5

Beverley Colts more than atoned for their reversal at Scunthorpe the week before, by scoring an emphatic victory over their closest rivals in the league at Bishop Burton College last night. >
In front of a decent sized crowd , Beverley dominated their rivals in most facets of play and its was only their own inaccuracy that kept the score from being somewhat larger.
Scunthorpe are a well orgainized side though, and their impressive defence withstood the opening Beverley raids , and it was they who scored with their first visit to Beverley territory with a fine try to their very impressive flanker. Beverley soon started to exert their dominance though as several phases of fine attacking rugby saw James Craig score, converted by Jamie Gill. Then Gill himself scored, through a brilliant piece of individual magic as he chippped and regathered not once but twice to score near the uprights, leaving himself with the simplest of conversions to make the half time score 14-5 to the hosts.
The second half turned into a stop-start affair with both sides arm wrestling to acheive the upper hand, and Scunthorpe receiving six penalties in a row to camp themselves on the Beverley line for what seemed an eternity. But the Beavers defence was huge and try what may, Scunthorpe could find no way through, and it was Beverley who scored next with a fine penalty by man of the match Gill.
From then on in it was all Beverley, as Eddie Russell, Glen Waldron and Craig dominated the lineouts, Dale Hodgson and Tom Doyle were everywhere in the loose, and Dave Brant was inflicting his usual barracking runs onto anyone who dared stand in his way. In the backs, the midfield of Cooper and Graham were very solid, and wings Shires and Johnson were dangerous the all too few times they received the ball. Craig scored his second try after numerous attacking phases left the brave Scunthorpe defence short, and Gill slotted the conversion to leave the final score at 24-5 to Beverley.
To acheive such a fine victory over their closest challanges and still not be totally happy with their performance is testament to the potential in this squad. The young beavers are now back in pole position in the league and barring any more slip ups should take the title as they have a far superior points differential then Scunthorpe. Next week its Driffield at home
