Bridlington 2nds -0 Beverley 2nds- 41
Beverley continued their impressive run of
result win another well earned win. Having now won 5 of their last six matches
the side can look forward to 2007 with high hopes.
The result was never in doubt from early on as
the Beverley forwards pounded the home try line for the first of their seven
tries, and the first of his three by Dale Hodgeson. The team continued to
control the match, and dictating the play into the areas they wanted to be in,
Robb Todd, playing out of position at scrum half managed to supply fly half
Kilgannon with largely good ball with which the youthful Beverley backs
continually asked questions of the home defence. As the half wore on Beverley
scored three further tries through No: 8 Dave Brant, Dale Hodgeson for his
second and winger PJ. The pack worked hard in the scrums with little joy, but
the lineouts worked exceptionally well with hooker Pickering continually finding
the impressive Parr, wherever he jumped in the line. The only downside to the
half was seeing prop Aron on his knees having clashed heads with Bridlingtons
mighty fly half, although he did manage to soldier on with bandages for the rest
of the match.
The second half disappointingly saw Bridlington
come back into the match as Beverley appeared to switch off in possession of the
ball, only strong well supported defence saw the away line kept clean. When they
did get possession again the Beverley backline line looked threatening, and but
for the final pass going down on occasion would surely have increased the
scoreline. It was from a fumbled Bridlington move in Beverleys half that saw the
score increase in the second half. Substitute Chris Brant pouncing on a loose
ball and racing half the pitch to score under the posts. Dale Hodgeson playing
very well for the sixth game running at openside got his hat trick close to the
end of the game as the match became scrappy, driving over from about 10 yards.
As the game drew to a close the backs, with Jerry Barnes effective in his return
to action, finally worked a move to savour, as winger Johnson cut in from the
blind side to show his pace and score from halfway under the posts, only for his
attempted drop goal to miss. Kilgannon chipped in with three conversions for the
final score 41-0. If the side continue with the same effort and commitment they
should have an excellent 2007.
This weeks match is home to Hull, kick off
2.15pm.
