Beverley 2nds - 21 Hull 2nds - 3
Beverley produced what they had been threatening to do in parts for most of
this season. Their try line never looked like being crossed throughout whole of
the game, thanks to some excellent tackling and teamwork, that saw them score
three tries to nil. Everyone who played worked hard for the cause to give
departing captain Rich Witham, the result and performance he really wanted, and
deserved. Before the game he called for everyone to work together, and that's
what happened.
The forwards worked tirelessly for the whole of the game in attack and
defence, dominating the tackle area and the line-out, allowing half backs
Kilgannon and Duboulay to kick the side into excellent attacking positions. The
only surprise being that they failed to score more. It was Kilgannon who opened
the score with a try under the posts and converting, then for Duboulay to score
in the corner, again Kilgannon converting. Whenever Hull did threaten to take
control, Beverley's defence was hard and firm, securing a great deal of turnover
ball. The score 14:3 at half time.
The second half started as the first had finished with much of the game being
played up front in the forwards, however Beverley again began to dominate for
long periods pushing the Hull team back, when they did break out the home sides
determination shone through with excellent cover work from the wings and full
back. Even when reduced to fourteen Beverley still continued to dominate. Dale
Hodgeson for the third week running played well at no:7, and Rob Vaux, finally
starting a game got his reward with a try in the corner, Kilgannon converting,
after another line-out win, in which Hancock, substitute Parr and captains man
of the match Barber where dominant. The team were able to afford captain Witham
the luxury of the final twenty minutes relaxing on the side line, as they
continually battered the away teams try-line. This was the teams final league
game of 2006 and a great way to send off Rich who is moving away. Its hoped they
can continue this form into 2007 and move up the league.
This week the team take on a Driffield side at Beaver Park.
