Old Crocs 22 Beverley 2nds 14
Bad day at the office!! It didn't start well for the seconds, this one. As
usual most players failed to turn up on time and the team were 30 minutes late
setting off, 70 + miles later, and the team find themselves dropped into the
basement changing room of the club in Halifax where poor old Ganga's couldn't
stand up for the ceiling being to low! Then as most players are changed and
ready the news arrives that Andy Wilson has a flat tyre and is waiting for
fireman Screamer to change the thing!! (4 players missing). Then news filters
through that Wilkes and Parry have got side tracked doing their Xmas shopping in
Leeds and are stuck in traffic.
Anyway for once the seconds have enough to field a starting 15 and the match
kicks off. Straight away Thorne puts himself into the thick of it knocking out
teammate Jenny (Jnr), and the scrums are reduced to uncontested. Returning star
Barker puts in a gutsy performance in the front row as replacement. There isn't
an awful lot more to say about the first half except 2 tries, 1 conversion and 1
penalty to Old Crocs. Then Parry & Wilkes turn up (without gifts) and come on
with 35 minutes gone.
Second half wasn't much of an improvement really Crocs were able to score
another converted try 22:0, bad day!
Then the team decides to start playing (70 minutes gone). The pack takes
control, Du Boulay at 10 orchestrates and the backs show their worth. Captain
Witham screams, Todd rummages, Riby glides and Inno directs, its looking better.
Swift hands from Du Boulay and Wilson put Screamer in, 25:7. (great touchline
conversion from Du Boulay). Then a rumble from Woods sets up a ruck just past
half way, the backs call a move and Wilkes races over from 40 yards blazing past
flailing arms. Too little too late, the ref blows full time, Glen and Adam
console one-another, whilst Geordie Andy is still chasing the ball.
Regroup and restart next week.
Man of the match shared by Mark Jenny and Dale Hodgson.
