Pink Ba-Bas Return to the Dubai 7s

By Katy Strudwick - November 7 2010
Record-breaking crowds, thrilling rugby action, entertainment second to none... and that’s just the Pink Ba Bas!!!

Dubai is the 7’s event of the year and yet again the Ba Bas are heading out to the “city of gold” to take part in a contest where over 160 International Invitation, Gulf, Local Social, Ladies, Veterans, and Youth teams will compete over three compelling days.

The 2010 tournament takes place from Thursday 2nd to Saturday 4th December, but with the Ba Bas arriving 4 days before the competition begins, there’ll be plenty of time to acclimatise to the 10 hours per day of sunshine and 30 degree heat. There will even be time for some training on the beach and team bonding in the notorious Spice Island where the team will ensure that they prepare their bodies for the gruelling 3 days of rugby.

The squad this year is a mix of home grown and international talent with all 12 players chomping at the bit to get on the pitch and show the crowds what they can do. With fierce competition from the likes of England, Wooden Spoon, to name a few, the Ba Bas will need all their skills to ensure they get their place in final of the cup.

Squad: Davinia Monterio (Wasps), Sarah Mckenna (Old Albanians), Izzy Noel-Smith (Bristol), Nic Houle (Bristol), Katie Mason (Bristol), Sophie Pascal (Cheltenham), Marlie Packer (Bristol) Claire Mckenna (Old Albanians), Laura Smith (Richmond), Sandy Elfast (Scockholm, Sweden) and Emma Jensen (Canterbury,New Zealand).

The kit has been designed by Olorun and is being made up as I write this; as per usual the Pink Ba Bas will be subtly dressed in their famed pink, navy and white strip. As soon as possible we will post pictures of the kit online for your visual delight.

We would also like to thank our sponsors Waitrose and Bonnington Towers where the Ba-bas will be staying this year.

All that’s left to say is that this year, like all others, will be IMMENSE!!!! We will be updating the site during the competition so supporters keep an eye out for how the team is doing and be ready to welcome a victorious squad back from Dubai..
