Pink Ba-Bas Reign at the Sunshine 7s Ends
Sunshine 7s R/up The Pink Ba-Bas were unlucky not to make it two tournaments wins on the trot at the 52nd Sunshine 7s, held at East Grinstead RFC. They were unable to retain the title of a tournament that they have dominated over the last two years, narrowly losing 12-7 to Pirates in a very close final.

After a slow start in their opening pool game against a strong Pirates squad, the Pink Ba-Bas went on to come second in their pool group. As the initial nerves settled, they got better with each match putting on an entertaining display of 7s rugby, despite being depleted in numbers and only having seven players.

The Ba-Bas impressive display in the semi’s and final entertained the crowds. The final was intensely close, with neither side giving an inch. In the end it came down to who used their subs more effectively and unfortunately, it was not going to be the Ba-Bas day.

The Pink Ba-Bas would like to thank Jo Ingledew (Surrey Gazelles) and Ani Mal (Basildon Birds) for helping them out in their later games when they were in need of fresh legs.

A spokesman for the Sunshine 7s said, “The final was really enjoyable to watch, providing some entertaining rugby. However, we are delighted that a new name will be added to the trophy this year!”.
