Arriving a full 5 days before the tournament kicks off, the Ba Bas will have plenty of time to acclimatise, get in some squad training (no doubt on the beach!) and introduce them selves to the rest of the teams.
A rough schedule has been pulled together by tour manager Sharon Gosling. Still rather flexible and open to change, but the below gives you an idea of some of the activities the team might be getting up to. Mostly drinking and sunbathing by the looks of it – well done Sharon!!
Saturday 25th
Most of the day will be spent recovering from the long flight and hour difference; a chance to grab some nibbles and water for your room, lie by the beach, sleep or whatever else takes your fancy. But be warned, you will be required to attend dinner and drinks in the evening for the first official get together of the Dubai 2006 Ba Bas.
Sunday 26th
You’ll probably be ready to hit the beach by now, so we reckon we’ll get in a spot of sunbathing as part of our first hang over cure. Late afternoon we’ll be heading over to the Dubai exiles ground, to have our first team run through, but, any training will be well worth it as we are heading out to Spice Island in the evening. For those who’ve not been before, this is the best all you can eat in the world!! Steak, Lobster, Sushi, Curry . . . you want it, they got it in bucketfuls.
Monday 27th
The morning has been pencilled in as free time so sun bathe, go to the beach, do a bit of shopping or have a lie in, it’s up to you. We’re thinking of a Creek trip in the afternoon. Bit of a tourist must do that, well, none of us have actually got round to doing so thought we should add it to the timetable. Then dinner and drinks in the evening – location tbc.
Tuesday 28th
Well, you must have already heard of it by now?? We are heading to Wild Wadi for the morning and everyone is required to go down the huge slide!! Just hold onto your Bikini tops!! A spot of training back at the Exiles ground is scheduled in the afternoon – it can’t be all fun you know!! Finally, the day is topped off with the Players BBQ, but don’t expect any ordinary BBQ. This rugby club is pretty good at food. Just please don’t make the same mistake as Julie did last year. Note to all: You can go up to get your pudding separately so there’s no need to pile your burger and custard all on the same plate! Anyway, this is a great opportunity to catch up with old friends from previous 7s tours and make some new ones so is a guaranteed top night.
Wednesday 29th
Free time in the morning and a spot of training in the afternoon. Then time to make yourselves look beautiful as we head to a Charity Black Tie Dinner.
Thursday 30th
And so the rugby begins. We will be kicking off our tournament with a game against Rugby Ecosse so hopefully all that lying on the beach will have got us mentally prepared. We will then, of course, be celebrating the start of the rugby with a few drinkies in the evening.
Friday 1st
Back to the rugby followed by more drinking.
Saturday 2nd
Finals Day!! We will hopefully be gracing the main pitch (!?!) with our skills, or alternatively kicking back and watching how everyone else gets on. Can England make it three in a row?? The final day always sees a huge concert/party at the ground so we will be hanging around for a few before heading, well, for another few!
Sunday 3rd
Once again we get time to recover, relax and maybe catch a few rays. Followed possibly by a bit of skiing – I kid ye not! And then we might just head out for some drinks.
Monday 4th
More relaxation and more drinking.
Tuesday 5th
We say a tearful farewell to Dubai 2006.

another suggestion from previous players BBQ...don't wear white trouser/ skirt.....one particular moody cow last year had to pull her trousers down and park her naked bum on the seats outside so as not to get dirty...hummmmmmmmmm........

who was that?
I had clearly consumed so much beer by then that I don't even know who it was, and I'm not even thinking it was me although there was a chance I was wearing white.
the BBQ.... a great way to kick start the tour.
fond memories.
