After a mammoth journey, taking in the delights of Maesteg, they arrived at Aberaeron, just in time to see a spectacular sunset. They set up the tentage and meandered into Aberaeron Town in search of sustenance. The flock ate at the Ty Thai before proceeding back to the campsite for a little nightcap.
Sat in Toni’s new pink tent, later christened the ‘Pink Palace’ the ladies enjoyed some well deserved beverages, before disaster nearly struck, or not. The electric battery powered lamp was hung from the roof, but when Toni accidentally knocked it and it landed between Jo’s legs, her reaction was somewhat of a surprise to our other lovely Ba Bas.
“F*ck, fire”, shouted Jo, while frantically clambering over Joey for the exit,
“F*ck, fire!”
Julie looked on puzzled, Toni felt somewhat like Moses in the desert, looking for the burning bush. Joey was struggling to hold her beer as Jo frantically wrestled with her trying to get out of the door.
A comment was made, the others are not here for another 24 hours, surely these kinds of hilarious shenanigans should wait, otherwise we will run out laughs by then end of the weekend. Little did our girls know that this would be just the start of a weekend, where no one could figure out whether that pain in their abdomens was from the marathon run of games, of the continuous laughter from the weekend?
The next morning our ladies rose early and took advantage of what west Wales had to offer them. A quick shower and our Ba Bas were on the way to Aberystwyth, where they were to indulge in an English breakfast and Dobby was to make her first quotable comment of the weekend.
On passing the Aberystwyth Branch of Y Popty, well known by the Ba Bas for their excellent pasties and welsh cakes (pics). The sign in the window said “Fresh home made sponges”. Dobby pondered this for a moment, before commenting,
“I though sponges grew in the sea!”
The other Pink Ba Bas, after a disbelieving glance at each melted into laughter, partly because of the daftness of the comment and partly because it was soooo Julie to say that!
The advanced party, being the culture vultures that they are, choose an excursion to Strata Florida. The site of an old abbey, steeped in Welsh history, this seemed a useful and fulfilling way to spend a morning. The Ba Bas learnt a lot, but rain forced them to move on prematurely. But not before a game of Pooh sticks. The idea was quite novel for Dobby, who was to make her second faux pas of the day.
"Hey you guys, i get how we get over the bridge, but how do the sticks race over the bridge?"
"The river will take them"
"But there is no water on the bridge!"
Not a lot of people know that Llanddewi Breifi, home of Daffyd, the only gay in the village, is in fact an actual place. And the next stop on the Pink Ba Bas advanced tour! The girls literally tripled the gay population that day and our own Miss Barbados started to converse with the locals in their own dialect. The first of many welsh conversations she had that weekend.
A good time was had by all and by 4pm our ladies were back in Aberaeron, in time for an early afternoon beer, ready to wait for the arrival of the other Ba Bas.
