FAWLEY SUN 2nd XI vs HYTHE SUN 2nd XI
Sunday 24th June
Stovell Maiden Ton Not Enough Against Stubborn Fawley
Jonjo STOVELL 100*
The whole of the South of England's probably heard about it but well done to Jonjo Stovell on his maiden Hythe ton - hopefully plenty more will follow. Hythe though were frustrated after setting Fawley 207 to win in 45 overs. The Oilers held out to finish on 134 for 6 and a draw.
Fawly won the toss and good old Lawrence had no hesitation in putting Hythe into bat. Stovell and Elliott Carley started well with 44 coming off the first 10 overs. The pair took the score to 74 before Carley was finally out - caight by Nick Shrive off Francis for 33. Stovell brought up his fifty and at 20 overs Stovell and Archie Gilbert had moved the score onto 108 for 1. Gilbert didn't last much longer as he was caught by Forster off Betts for 9.
Lewie Fay joined Stovell and played impressively. At 30 overs Hythe had moved onto 180 for 2. Stovell brought up his maiden ton which included 5x4's & 4x6's promplty retiring 100 *. Zac Millar joined Fay and added another 26 (inc a Millar 6) before Woodsy called them in for an early declaration. Fay finishing on 20* and Millar 9*. Hythe 206 for 2 off just 33 overs.
Ben Fenton & Sam Carley opened the bowling for Hythe in what was the youngest opening partnership since the late 70's. Second over and a massive wicket - Hythe 3rd XI's Nick Shrive bowled by Carley for 0. Rob Thomas and Lloyd Coxall then added 53 for the 2nd wicket in 19 overs as Woods tried his best to break the partnership. Finally it was Millar who got Thomas - caught by the juggling Woods for 30.
61 for 2 at drinks and the start of the final 20 overs. But second ball in and another wicket when JP Fenton bowled Betts for 6. The call from the Fawley skipper was already to play for a draw as Woods and JP Fenton were blocked ball after ball. 16 overs to go and JP Fenton struck again - having Coxall caught by Millar for a stubborn 13. - Fawley 83 for 5.
Woods finished his 8 overs with an impressive 0-9. Ben Fenton come back into the attack and in his second over bowled Francis for 8. 10 overs to go and 4 wickets required for the win. Woods tried Stovell who was still on a high after his ton and went for 7 no balls in one over. McCarthy was brought back to wheel his old Fawley magic with no joy. 4 overs to go Sam Carley returned and picked up the wicket of Reed for 16 with the help of a good catch by McCarthy. But Fawley saw out the remaining overs finishing on 134 for 6.
Game drawn - Hythe pick up 8 bonus points Fawley 3 points.
