Bashley Prove Too Strong As Under 11s Bow Out In The Final

Team Celebrate Sam Fenton's Wicket of P.Holly

Hythe and Dibden Under 11s lost their New Forest Cup Final game against Bashley Rydal in what was a tough fixture. Tom Knight-Owen lost the toss and Bashley chose to bat first on what was an overcast morning with dew under foot. The green caps opened the bowling with Sam Fenton and he bowled a tidy first over that went for 3 runs. Sam Carley opened from the other end and had an indifferent start with 2 fours scored off his first over. It was however Carley who struck first bowling P Holly out for 15 with a ball that hit the top of off stump.

First change bowler was Lewie Fay who started well before a ball to the ankle ment that he could not complete his first over. Tom Jones stepped up to the mark to finish Fay’s over and with only 4 scored in total Bashley were 41-1 off of 5 overs. The sixth over was bowled by Tom Knight-Owen again with only 4 scored off it. With Fay struggling with an injury Sam Copley came on to bowl the seventh over.

It was not until the 13th over Hythe managed to take the 2nd wicket Caught by Carley and bowled by Copley. The Third wicket came soon after as Gaunt was bowled for a duck by Carley to leave Bashley 94-3 after 16 overs. Fenton picked up the fourth wicket in the last over of the game

Hythe showed good energy in the field only allowing Bashley 7 boundaries in their 20 overs. Bashley scorer Chris Holly who is also the district coach for the under 11s was extreamly impressed by the way in which Hythe under 11s went about fielding. Will Ladbury had a difficult day behind the stumps with 17 byes but did make some crucial stops.

Hythe opened the batting with Sam Jessney and Sam Carley. It was Jessney who lost his wicket in the third over first and was unlucky not to get off the mark. This brought Lewie Fay out to partner Carley. Carley got off the mark with a square drive for four and with Fay began to rotate the strike before Fay was bowled out for 2.

Robbie Bassett was in at number four and scored 2 until he was caught in the covers. Tom Knight Owen then came to the crease and along with Carley they began to build a partnership with Carley hitting singles and Knight-Owen scoring a couple of boundaries. The partnership was 14 before Carley’s resistance ran out in the ninth over as he was bowled by Gaunt for 10.

Hythe were then 35-4 and the batting collapse had begun. Skipper Knight-Owen was then caught by the keeper from a shot he had tried to sweep for 12 the bowler being Laurent. 2 more wickets fell in Laurent’s over, Will Ladbury and Fraser Smith both being clean bowled for 0. Tom Jones was then bowled by Holly for 0 and then Sam Fenton was run out for 1 leaving Hythe 41-9 after 13 overs.

Resistance at the end saw Chris Kemp score 2 before the second run out of the innings. Sam Copley finished not out for 0. With Bashley working hard in the field and with bowlers bowling tight lines they ran away with a 76 run victory.
