HYTHE UNDER 11's vs FAWLEY
Hythe Under 11’s Too Good For Oilers
![]() |
| Tom JONES 11 |
On a dew covered morning in what was the first local derby with Fawley for the season skipper Tom Knight-Owen won the toss and chose to bat first. Hythe opened with Fraser Smith and Knight-Owen and the pair got Hythe off to a good start. Both scored runs off the bat and defended when needed to do so, Knight-Owen hitting a 4 and the pair not getting out once.
The second batting pair was Will Ladbury, who had an injury scare in the net before the game, and Sam Fenton, who was fresh back from the Rosebowl and Wimbledon. They got off to a tricky start with Ladbury bowled in the first over but then they settled down. Fenton hit 2 4s in his innings and again they played sensible and defended their wickets when needed. They added 24 to the score and Hythe were 248-1 after 8 overs.
The third pair consisted of Sam Carley and Tom Jones and it was at this point Hythe really pushed on. With some very good running between the wicket and one 4 to Jones Hythe surged on to 280-2 after 12 overs, Carley out once and Jones top scoring with 11. The final pair was Lewie Fay and Chris Kemp. Life as a batsman became difficult as Parrott was moving the ball around in the air, both Kemp and Fay were out twice bowled. Fay hit several shots through the covers and down the ground off Forster but the pair were only able to add 14 to the score. Hythe 294-6
Hythe opened the bowling with Sam Fenton and whilst his first 2 balls were wide he struck with the third ball with a clean bowled. Sam Carley opened at the other end and narrowly missed out on bowling a maiden over, just the 1 wide. The third over fell to the responsibility of Knight-Owen and he picked up a clean bowled with his second ball and the on his third Lewie Fay got a run out. Lewie Fay then bowled himself picking up a wicket with his first ball, clean bowled, to leave Fawley 205-4 after 4 overs.
Fenton then had a second over at the second pair and picked up a wicket with his first ball, clean bowled. Hythe were forced to wait until the sixth wicket fell and it went to Lewie Fay with another clean bowled. The third pair faced Bowling from Tom Jones, Fraser Smith and Chris Kemp all of whom seemed to struggle with the ball today, however all had their chances to take wickets with the good balls.
Fawley were 241-6 when their final pair came in, by which point Hythe were struggling with the heat. Fentons last over went for 7 and he finished with figures of 3 overs 1 maiden 2 for 18. Carley who bowled all of his overs tidily was unlucky not to get a wicket and finished with figures of 4 overs 0-11. Knight-Owen finished with figures of 3 overs 21-1 and Fay who bowled a very tidy last over of the game finished with 3 overs 2-16.
Will Ladbury deserves a special mention for his wicket keeping again especially after his pre game knock keeping well to what are some reasonable quick Hythe bowlers. The fielding from all the lads was good again especially with the last pair and Fawley potentially getting a sniff at an upset. Fawley 271-7
