PYLEWELL PARK vs HYTHE UNDER 11's
Under 11’s Lose by 2 Runs
|Lewie FAYE 17|
Pylewell Park maintained their 100% record despite great efforts from Hythe Under 11's who took them close - losing by 2 runs.
On a windy morning at Pylewell , Tom Knight-Owen won the toss and chose to bowl. Hythe opened with Sam Fenton and Sam Carley and it was Carley to strike first bowling Wright. Hythe had some time to wait until the next wicket fell but Tom Knight-Owen picked up 2 in a row, both bowled at the end of his second over.
The third pair for Pylewell managed not to lose any wckets with Hythe using Sam Copley, 2 overs, Sam Jessney, 1 over and Fraser Smith 1 over all bowling well but without success. It was up to Fenton in his third over to pick up the 4th wicket which was caught by Lewie Fay. Tom Knight-Owen picked up his 3rd wicket, bowled and then lewie Fay took the 6th leaving Pylewell 273-6 off their 16 overs. With Will Ladbury looking ever more the wicket keeper this week the number of extras was well down on previous weeks – only 3 byes.
Hythe opened the batting with Sam Fenton and Sam Copley, and it wasn’t a good start with both of them bowled first ball meaning Hythe started 190-2 before a run was scored. To be fair to Fenton and Copley they recovered well, both scoring 4s and only out the once, leaving Hythe 211 after 4 overs. The second pair was Tom Knight-Owen and Will Ladbury and the first 2 overs went well with Hythe reaching 223-2 but then there was a silly run out and 3 more wickets fell in quick succession.
After a short rain delay Hythe were in trouble at 218 for 6 after 8 overs. The third pair to bat was Sam Carley and Fraser Smith, again the start was not good with Carley bowled first ball. The pair regrouped and managed to add 30 more with fraser not losing a wicket and Carley losing his twice. With Hythe set up at 248-8 the final pair of Lewie Fay and Sam Jessney came to the crease. Jessney played a brilliant supporting role as Fay looked to knock of the runs required scoring 4 x4s and with 4 balls to go the green caps had got to the total. Unfortunately this didn’t seal the game with Fay being caught and bowled off the second to last ball of the game and with a scampered run off the last ball the green caps had lost by 2 runs.
Credit must be paid to Pylewell for not giving up and looking for another wicket. Whilst it was a bitter pill to swallow for the young Green Caps it taught them an invaluable lesson that everything matters in games as 2 runs contributes to a loss of a wicket, wide or no ball, piece of miss fielding or a laps in backing up – all of which could be attributed towards the loss on Sunday.
