In the true spirit of British weather forecasting......they got it wrong again and the predicted washout on Sunday morning didn't occur and it was game on. Although it was blinking cold!

Hythe batted first on a wicket that offered quite a variation in bounce to say the least which made it pretty tough going. It took care of opener Jordan Blandford who went caught out for 6 in the 4th over. Kieran Chalmers came in at 3 and established a good partnership with opener Richard Jones although due to the variation they lacked there normal fluency and there were a few full blooded attempted drives that evaded the bat a number of times. It happened one too many times for Jones as he was bowled for 35 bringing Nathan Froggett to the crease. A boundary, a few singles from Nathan and yet more missed shots left him on 7.

By now the running between the wickets was fairly prevelant but a mix up saw Nathan pretty much volunteer to take the run out. A few balls later and Kieran retired on 40 not out which brought Zac Millar and James Bidwell to the creasefor the last couple of overs. again some missed shots but in amongst that some good running and a 6 for Zac meant 16 not out for Zac and 6 not out for James. That meant all the batsmen made some runs and set a healthy total of 134 for 3.   So Hythe set to the field opening the bowling with two of our Under 13 contingent Ali Bryers and Archie Gilbert. Its a complex picture with regard the bowling as Hythe shared the bowling around giving no less than 9 bowlers the chance to turn their arm over. So 5 of the first 6 bowlers were all the boys who'd not had a bat and they all got at least 2 overs each.

All the bowlers kept Milford tied down with some good bowling. Ali Bryers finished on 4 overs 1 wicket (clean bowled) for just 15; a special mention for Martin Duell making his debut and bowling his 3 overs for just 14 runs; Jack Knight-Owen 2 overs for 10 with a wicket thanks to a catch by Ali and a very tight 2 overs from Sam Kelly giving away just 3 runs.  Tight overs from Chalmers, Jones, Blandford and Millar completed the 9 bowlers used (a scorers nightmare - thanks to Sue - as ever!) with Millar taking a caught and bowled wicket in his one over. Some good work in the field by Blandford, Chalmers and JKO added further wickets in the shape of 2 run outs. Haynes retired for Milford on Sea with 40 not out but the game was safely won with Milford on Sea finishing on 81 for 5.

Having been previously bowled out 61, 37 and just 18 twice Milford on Sea's coach thanked our team for the sporting nature of the win (as did the New Milton B manager on the first game of the season) and they went away a happier team. Having said that they have improved since we played them 2 years ago and losing to a lesser degree today will hopefully encourage their players to stick with their team and with cricket.... We still won by @50 runs and whilst we won't get the extra bonus points it was a day where everyone won in a sporting capacity with all our boys getting a bat or a bowl again.   In terms of games won, lost and drawn Hythe U15s are joint 2nd but due to the bonus points system where we prefer not to be so ruthless we are currently 6th..... an opportunity for the league to maybe reconsider the system at some stage in order to promote a more sporting nature to some of the games in the league.

Well done to the Under 15s who have mustered some great results despite regularly having key players missing.
