HYTHE UNDER 11's vs NEW MILTON

6th June @ Jones Lane

Under 11s into the Semi-Finals of the Cup for the first time in the Club’s History with a 3 wicket win over New Milton

 sam carley
Sam CARLEY 4 for 13

A sunny evening at Jones Lane saw Hythe and Dibden’s under 11s side back to full strength after the half term absences. CaptaIn Tom Knight-Owen won the toss and chose to field first on the artificial wicket.

Hythe opened the bowling with Sam fenton who found success with his first over bowling Gore for 0 and in his second over dismissing Miller, Bowled for 3. At the other end Sam Carley bowled Gurden for 2 leaving the visitors 10-3. With the double change of bowlers Lewie Fay and Tom Knight Owen were brought into the attack. Whilst neither had success in their first overs Fay Bowled Hussey for 7 and Knight-Owen bowled Nichols. Fay and Knight-Owen both bowled wicket maidens with their second overs.

Sam Copley was back into the team and bowled just the one over for 5 runs and taking the wicket of Hart in the process. Tom Jones bowled at the other end and whilst he didn’t pick up a wicket he bowled a maiden over.  Sam Fenton and Sam Carley came back on for a second spell and it was Sam Carley that caused the visitors trouble. He took the wickets of Dyer Smith, Gazzrd and McClean, all of which were bowled, in 2 further overs, finishing with figures of 4 overs 13 runs for 4 wickets. Sam Fenton finished with figures of 4 overs 15runs for 2 wickets.

The visitors were at this point 9 down for 43 runs but a tenth wicket partnership frustrated Hythe by adding 25 runs until Fay bowled Z Norton for 5. Fay finished with figures of 3.3 overs 1 maiden 20 runs for 2 wickets and Knight-Owen finished with 3 overs 1 maiden 7 runs for 1 wickets. A high standard of fielding from all players during the game and with Will Ladbury only letting 9 byes through this helped keep the total down.

New Milton 68 all out

Hythe and Dibden opened the batting with Sam Jesney and Robbie Bassett but Bassett was run out off the 3rd ball of the innings for 0 meaning Lewie Fay went to the crease. Fay and Jesney face tough bowling from the opening pair of Gurden and Hussey with Hythe 7 for 1 off 4 overs. Jessney was bowled in the sixth over for 2 after seeing off the opening bowlers. Sam Carley was the next man in and built a partnership with Fay of 16 runs.

Fay was the next batsman to be bowled for 12 by leg spinner Miller and this triggered a collapse. Fraiser Smith was given out LBW by Umpire Matt Young for nothing and then Carley was caught by Hussey for 10 to leave Hythe 30-5. Chris Kemp came to the crease and looked good but only managed to score 3 before being bowled by Miller.

At number 8 was the skipper Tom Knight-Owen and he quickly looked to settle the nerves and build a partnership with Ladbury. The seventh wicket partnership was 28 runs with Ladbury backing up Knight-Owen and scoring runs with good shots as well. Ladbury finally fell for 5 after being run out but the damage was done by this point with Hythe at 66-7. Sam Fenton was at number 9 and batted the score off with Knight-Owen with 3 overs to spare. Fenton finish 2 not out and Knight-Owen top scored with 14 not out to cap an excellent team effort with all that played deserving their win. The team spirit was fantastic and with a home game for a semi final the cup run can go on.
