3RD XI FINISH OFF SEASON WITH A FRIENDLY & A WIN

By Web - September 3 2010
With the 3rd XI final league game of the season cancelled on Friday evening - Hythe did London tourists Golden Age a favour and found a ground to play a friendly. Thanks to Andy Tull at Ashurst and with the sun actually shining for the first time in the week the game went ahead at 3pm - 30 overs a side after 4 wheel barrells of  dung had to be claered from the outfield. The Champs invited the tourists to bat first and as expected the pitch was still very wet. Golden Age made 125 for 9. In reply Hythe made 128 for 7 with Kev McCarthy the unlikely hero scoring 27 batting at the dizzy heights of 4.

CHAMPS END SEASON WITH A WIN

Kev McCARTHY 27

With Hythe 3rd XI's final league game of the season postponed on the Friday Evening, the Green Caps took on London Touring side Golden Age as part of their 3 match New Forest Tour. A 3pm start meant 30 overs a side game with Tony North offering the tourists the chance to bat first.

After clearing up 4 wheel barrels of horse muck Hythe took to the field on a pleasant afternoon. Thanks to Andy Tuck for preparing a pitch at such shoret notice and though wet it played very well. Northy gave all 10 players a bowl - the only exception Super Kev who is still nusring his shoulder injury.

Goldon Age who only play occasional Sunday cricket were soon in trouble when Sam Mead got an early wicket. At the other end Steve Millar (Zacs dad without spikes ) slid in for 3 good overs. Zac came on to bowl three overs of spin taking 2-8 and even Northy donned the gloves to bowl some pies and take 2-24 off 3. Goldon Age 125 for 9 off their 30 overs.

Hythe opened with Woodsy (still trying to break double figures) and Tom Richards. Woodsy fell in the 3rd over for 1 and Luke Blackwell soon followed for a duck. With the score on 16 Tom Richards was caught for 13 and Hythe were 16 for 3 off 7. That brought Kev McCarthy to the crease at number 4 - Super Kev 6 league innings this season and no runs. But it was Josh Mead who fell next to a caught & bowled for 5. Sam Mead fell for 12 and Zac Millar a duck - Hythe 74 for 6. Super Kev though smashed 3x4's on his way to a top score of 27 when he was the 7th man out at 75 with 8 overs to go.

But Northy and Magnum made sure there were going to be no more shocks and the pair added an unbeaten 53 in 7 overs to win the game. North ending 15* and Mike Graham 17*. Good game to end the season after a months wet weather.

The visitors went on to play Compton & Chandlers Ford on Sunday before heading to Jones Lane on Monday
