By Web - August 2 2010
Hythe were well beaten in the Stone Cup Final on Friday evening by a more determined and skillfull Sway side. Sway who play in one league higher - set the tone on Hythe with a good hours warm up before the game. Hythe batted first scoring an under par 95 for 9. Skipper Mike Bowman amde 29 and Ewan Bell 23. Sway got off to a great start through R.Clark and A.Hall. Hythe did get 3 wickets but the forest side won easily with 11 balls to spare. Good competition for the Green Caps though - they did beat both Lymington and Bashley on the way.

Sway Well On Top To Win Cup

Mike BOWMAN -29

Hythe and Dibden 2nd Xl were well beaten in the Stone Cup Final by a fitter and more skilfull Sway side who play in one league higher in the Hamsphire set up. Hythe batted first scoring a disappointing 95 for 9 off their 18 overs. Sway got off to a solid start and won comfortably by 7 wickets with 11 balls spare.

Hythe won the toss and elected to bat first in good light. Skipper Mike Bowman opened with Mike Edwards and the pair took the score to 17 before Edwards was bowled by Steadman for 7. An awful mix up then occured between Bowman and Hythe's star man Effeny - resulting in the later being run out by Grasham for 0. At 28 Hythe lost their 3rd wicket when Mills was caught by Hall off Steadman for 7. Tom Richards was then caught off Thrnton and Hythe were in trouble at 39 for 5.

Ewan Bell and Bowman added 41 for the 6th wicket before Grasham bowled Bowman for 29. The rest of Hythe's batting disintergarted in front of a big crown as Hythe ended on 95 for 9 off their 18 overs. - that thanks to 2 fours from Chalky White off the last two balls.

Sway got off to a flyer in reply - 36-0 off just 5 overs saw Russell Moore removed from the attack after just 2 overs. Clark and Hall put on 73 in 10 overs for Sway before a catch from Richards dismissed Hall for 41 off Effeny. N.Attapattu 13 then showed the crowd just why he's been scoring so freely this year before Prentice had him LBW with the score on 92 for 2.

Hythe did get another wicket before the end - A.Clark caught by Moore off Richards who finished with 1-5 off 3 - very impressive but the man of the match award went to Sways Rob Steadman for his 2-18 off 4.

Sway won the Stone Cup by 7 wickets with 11 balls remaining. Hythe can feel chuffed that on the way to the final they beat two of the kings of the Forest in Bashley Rydal and Lynington - There's always next year.
