CALMORE SPORTS vs HYTHE SUNDAY XI
Sunday 18th July
Hythe Enjoy Day Out @ Loperwood

Luke BLACKWELL 8-1-13-3
There's no better ground in the County to play Sunday cricket than the lovely setting of Loperwood Park and Hythe enjoyed their day with a comfortable 70 run win over Southern League Calmore thanks to fifties from Adriaan De Jager and Tom Richards. Luke Blackwell and Tom Porter then both picked up three wickets to seal the win.
Hythe’s Sunday XI travelled to Calmore for a rare away fixture but crucially won the toss on a very hot day and Captain Paul Quinnell wisely chose to bat first.
He opened with Adriaan De Jager and Jonjo Stovell as the visitors started brightly with 11 runs coming off the first over. The first wicket fell on 25 when Stovell was dismissed but De Jager and Tom Richards then saw Hythe to drinks with only one wicket down.
The pair then began to push the score along before De Jager was the first of left handed Australian M. Wallace’s victims shortly after reaching another Hythe fifty. With time running out the Green Caps looked to attack but against the Southern League Bronze overseas player they lost wickets as Ewan Bell, Tom Porter and Matt Young all fell to single figures as Wallace picked up 4-14.
In the end Hythe were thankful to positive late running between Richards and new man Sean Tongs that saw the score pass 150. Richards only scoring a couple of boundaries in his unbeaten 51 while Tongs’ 26* did not contain a boundary.
Chasing 166 to win Calmore opened with two Southern League stars. However, the first wicket fell early when Ewan Bell ran out B. Perry with a direct hit after just a couple of overs.
Rob Saunders then struck twice as Hythe began to take control of the game with Calmore’s batting line-up top heavy protecting the colts in the lower order.
It was left to M. Wallace to chase the total almost single-handedly and when he was bowled by Luke Blackwell for 44 the game was effectively over. With Hythe closing in for the kill, it was the duo of Blackwell and Tom Porter who did most of the damage as the weak Calmore lower order was exposed.
Blackwell recording 3-13 and Porter 3-5 as Calmore wound up well short on 95 all out leaving Green Caps Captain Paul Quinnell delighted.
