10 Man Hythe Beat Milford With Superb Cathcing
Display
A
superb catching display by the 10 man Under 17's eased them to a
55 run win over Milford on Sea at Jones Lane tonight. Hythe
batted first and made 116 for 5 with Harry Smith top scoing with
29. Ben Smith took two wickets in the first over and from then on
Milford wickets fell at a regular pace including two quality
catches from Damon Lord and another from Ben and Harry Smith.
Hythe
now jump above Milford in the league table to 9th.
Milford
won the tosss and put Hythe into bat on what looked a perfect
batting on the edge of the square. Hythe again opened with Matt
Young and Ben Smith and the pair got the green caps off to a
steady start - 20-0 off 5 overs. Then just as Smith started to
find the boundary he was well caught by S.Brown for 14 - Hythe 29
for 1.
That
brought Tom Richards to the crease who was finding it hard to
time the ball. Off the next 7 overs only 40 were added against
some ragid bowling. At 67 Hythe lost Matt Young for 23. Harry
Smith showed his intent from the off hitting 3 fours from his
first 5 scoring shots. The pair took the score to 91 off 15 overs
when Richards was out for 23 inc 1x4 and 1x6.
Harry
Smith was next to go caught for a very good 29 inc 5x4's. Tom
Huxley made 2 before he was dismissed for 2 in the last over and
Hythe finished on 116 for 5 with Sam Mead 11 not out.
Ben Smith
opened the bowling for Hythe and after three balls down the left
side he bowled Rogers off his pad for 0. Next ball he took out
J.Brown's middle stump and Milford were 1-2. Same Page took the
next over and after Sheppard hit him for 4 two balls later he had
him well caught by Ben Smith for 4.
Todd
Powell replaced Ben Smith (who was protecting his average) and
second ball had S.Brown excellently caught well down by Ben Smith
for 3 - Milford 8 for 4. 2 overs later and Powell had another
scalp - bowling Lewis for 8. Luke Blackwell replaced Page and
first ball had Short caught by Harry Smith for 2. In his next
over Milford lost another wicket when Boynton was well caught by
Damon Lord in the deep. Two balls later and the sdame pair
dismissed Ayling for 0 this time Lord's catch one of the catches
of the season. Milford 31 for 8.
Tom
Richards came onto bowl and became the 5th Hythe bowler to get a
wicket in his first over thansk to another stonker of a catch -
this time from Harry Smith. Sam Mead was given 2 overs to help
the Milford score along and Damon Lord who missed out with the
bat was asked to bowl and was rewarded with the final wicket -
Todd Powell with the catch. Milford all out for 61 in just 12.3
overs. A valuable 19 points for the green caps and they did it
with ten men after Sam Unsworth failed to show.
