Glad To See The Back Of The ‘A' Teams’
After three tough weeks of fixtures
against the 'A' teams of the arguarbly New Forests top three club
sides - the young green caps will look forward to next week in
search of their first win. Hythe went down on Sunday to New
Milton 'A' by 56 runs although coach JP will be pleased with the
lads batting display as not many sides will only lose three
wickets to New Milton 'A'
Hythe were asked to bowl first after captain
Sam Kelly lost the toss. New Milton's opening pair blasted 7
boundaries in their four over spell, the scoring slowed down
briefly by a clean bowled by Ali Bryers. The fielding was an
improvement on recent efforts with fewer overthrows being given
away and a reduction in the number of twos being run. After
recent reductions in the number of wides and no balls, it was
disappointing that these increased again today. However runs off
the bat were proving hard to come by, and Ben Fenton took his
first wicket of the season (much to Richie Froggett’s relief
as he is in his fantasy team) with another clean bowled in the
twelfth over. Gilbert and Kelly both came back on at the end and
responded well with some accurate bowling to close the New Milton
innings on 316 for 2.
This was always going to be a tall order but
all the boys responded fantastically and put in an excellent
batting performance without exception. Kelly and Copley scored
steadily, losing just the one wicket to an indecisive run out.
Kelly pulling a couple of boundaries in the final over made up
for this. Excellent running between the wickets was evident by
all the pairs, stealing plenty of quick singles with more
decisive calling. Fenton and Bennett came in as the second pair
and continued to make the scoreboard tick over. Bennett snuck a
beautifully cut four before losing his middle stump to the one
straight ball of the over.
Keates and Reid then came to the crease,
running well once again. Reid was unlucky to be out to a
fantastic running catch, Keates glancing a lovely four down
towards the pavilion. Finally Bryers and Gilbert came to the
crease scoring regularly, with Gilbert pulling a couple of
successive boundaries in one over.
All partnerships contributed positively to
the total of 260 for 3, and after three weeks of Lymington,
Bashley and New Milton’s A teams we look forward with
confidence to Fawley next week. Cup match next Monday night as
well against Farley!
