Hythe
Romp To Easy Win Over a Young Bramshaw

MILLS 45 |

SMITH 3-7 |
On a
very damp wicket it was strange for Hythe to come up against
opposition that plays younger colts than they do. Bramshaw who
have a great local reputation for bringing on youth, fielded no
less than six colts in their side including one 9 year old. But
when your Crouchey and reputation as a captain is at stake then
there's no room for sentiment as Hythe cruised to a 87 run win.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Skipper Russell Moore won the toss
and elected to bat first after seeing the youth in the
oppositions side. Luke Mills was promoted to opening with Jonjo
Stovell back from holiday after 3 weeks away. Jonjo watched by
his dad who cycled over from Bitterne to watch - probably wished
he hadn't as he was caught off Alford for 12. James (I'm better
than the Guru) Page came in at 3 only to miss out - again caught
off Arnold for 4. - Hythe 21 for 2.
The Guru himself came in at 4 to
steady the ship and he and Mills put on 80 for the 3rd wicket in
just 15 overs. Mills then went bowled by Kingston for 45 (inc
4x4's). Hong Kong Graham joined Tongs and the pair added another
47 before Tongs was caught for 55 (inc 4x4's, 1x6). Hythe 148 for
4. Pete Jeffrey Stevens then came in for another short innings -
first hitting a six and then bowled trying to reverse sweep a 10
year old. Mike Graham though was in impressive mood finishing on
42 not out (inc 3x4's) whilst skipper Russell Moore finished
unbeaten on 20 (inc 3x4's) Hythe 206 for 5 at tea.All credit to
the young Bramshaw team who kept going and those who could bowl
had a go.
After tea Hythe opened with the
speed kings Richard Last and Greg Woods. Woodsy struck first at
19 when Tongs caught Stickland for 8. Next over though The Fonz
joined in having hart caught by his skipper for 0. M.Alford
though looked in good nick at the other end - he and Kingston put
on 48 for the 3rd wicket before Alford went caught by Tongs again
off Harry Smith for 40. Bramshaw 79 for 3 at the drinks as the
skipper introduced himself to the attack. Second ball into the
skate park and he must have wished he hadn't. But on 85 Smith
took his second wicket bowling the useful Kingston for 30. Four
runs later five down - Smith again with the aid of a Pete Stevens
catch. That brought 9 year old J.Rogers to the crease and what a
talent he will be in a few years. Dad Tim joined him at the
crease but after scoring a six and four soon after Punchey bowled
him for 15. Not bad cv Punchey last week bowling Martin Hovey and
this week Tim Rogers.
Whitcher run himself out for 1 and
the rest soon followed - James Page somehow taking 2-5 - Bramshaw
119 all out with 2.3 overs left in the game.
